Mentioned in the Amron thread but figured it deserves its own. Elmore has "stepped away" from the team.

https://x.com/bobcatshowcase/status/1880410272957092049?s...

The wording of this makes me think it isn't "personal reasons" but rather strife with the coaching staff. It was time for Reef to reclaim his starting spot as he has healed up. Speculation but I wonder if he didn't take kindly to that news....but I've never seen any indication of that type of behavior from EJ4. Hopefully we can get some more info soon.

If your speculation ends up being accurate — it’s impressive we made it this long without a guard/wing leaving due to PT, considering we have so many of them. Probably won’t be the last with the influx next year.

Fingers crossed he’s back, though.

Reminds me of McCray’s sudden departure.

Not sure from that Tweet how anyone can come to any conclusions on the situation. Whatever the issue is, I wish him well.

I was thinking the same thing. Might be entirely different once we know (if we ever do) the actual circumstances, but on the surface seems eerily similar.

To be clear, I wasn't concluding anything and pretty explicitly just speculating. If he had something personal/family/etc going on I think the announcement would have said something to the effect of "personal matters", so this is just my guess.

He was the player guest on the Boals radio show Wednesday and seemed just fine and excited for Akron. Talked about how many of his family and friends would be at the game.

I think it's best not to speculate right now.

Glad he's back, too. Hope it wasn't something as serious as our leading RB was dealing with in September when his production dropped way off. I couldn't figure out why he did so well against Syracuse and then his production dropped off against much weaker teams. Then I learned that his sister had passed away. Explained everything. He came back like roaring lion in the later part of the season and in post season.

Has 4 off the bench tonight.

Would like to see him at TE next season for Brian.

And a bit of free safety too! I was thinking after basketball eligibility is shot then that spring he could get one year of football to see if he has any Antonio Gates in him (or the PG turned DB from Miami whose name escapes me)

Elmore having had an older sister attend OHIO seems to be a solid Bobcat all the way around.

Already mentioned in the transfer thread, but Elmore has entered the portal.

I wish him well. He did not progress as many of us had hoped. His touch around the rim and mid-range was really good as a freshman and seemed to regress, while opponents figured out he was a good candidate for blocking shots. But he always hustled and hit some big shots.

First of the group of 4 that amazingly lasted 3 years together. Wonder if the other 3 will all stay and finish it out here.

I'd have preferred Sheldon to Elmore, but would actually prefer both plus Nicol. Elmore did a lot of good things for us; when you have 63 guards, some of them are gonna be unhappy with their roles, and it seems like that was the case for Elmore.

Best of luck to him. I've enjoyed watching him play.

I echo a lot of thoughts that Elmore wants to be more of "the guy" with his next stop.

After last season's opener against Troy, it seemed like this was going to be AJB's and Elmore's team. Didn't really shake out that way.

Best of luck to him. I do hope a few more spots open up.

As teams are eliminated from the NCAA and NIT, it will be a bumper crop of talent in the portal.

A big beautiful bumper crop, the likes of which the world has never seen. /s

But verbal diarrhea aside, it will be a good list and no reason not to do well this time.

Enjoyed having him in Athens, always played hard and brought some toughness but we just didn't see the improvement that we all hoped for. It happens, wish him the best of luck.

I'll be very curious to see where he lands, could see him staying in the MAC. Kent would be my first guess.

I would also like to think with a clear opening at the 5 and really no budget breakers on the current roster, that we can make an actual formidable paint addition.

By most accounts, Elmore was a great teammate. I understand his (and or Boals') decision. I disagree with others who have claimed Elmore did not improve this year. He obviously worked a lot on his outside shot and we reaped the benefits later in the season. And few played harder than he did.

No doubt Elmore was a good teammate and can you imagine if he didn't return to the team after his 3-game absence with all the injuries? However, let's take a closer look at the numbers:

*He ended the year shooting 39% from the field. Of the rotation players, only Sheldon was worse at 36%.

*He had 26 assists this season. #TheUpgrade had 25 assists and Captain Chaos had 28.

*He averaged 2.6 rebounds. Only Sheldon was worse at 1.5 rebounds.

Elmore was always a shoot first guy, but his FG% never justified the amount of shots he took. Every time he touched it....I knew it was going up like Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson. Yes...for the young ones google Vinnie Johnson. The difference is Elmore didn't put up Vinnie numbers. Plus, as we know, Elmore was undersized playing the 3.

As I said in a different thread...fresh start for Elmore and the team. James entering the portal is not a surprise and I think in the long run....not a bad thing.
