The advanced stats on Morton are pretty concerning. PER of 6.5, TS% of .322, eFG below 30%, and high turnover rate.

I get beggers can't be choosers, but the rate stats don't project well with more minutes. When you looked at a guy like Reef, at least there was solid production in the minutes he was on the floor.

The calling card with Morton isn't scoring at all. In his lone year starting, he did have a better assist to turnover ration than the season Shereef just had. Not advocating for Morton necessarily, but he's going to do the little/scrappy things and bring some much needed size/experience/defense to a team with plenty of guys who aren't shy when it comes to shooting. Might not be a bad thing.

It's actually wild none of his offensive game translated from HS. Averaged 23.4 points, 13.0 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game, shooting 56 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line.

Makes sense to me regarding how he'd contribute. A guy like that will fit so long as AJBs shooting returns post surgery. Between AJB and Clayton, we should be able to keep defenses stretched most of the time. And Sheldon's minutes obviously help there, too.

You apparently did not watch the last few games. He had 20 and 6 at Miami. May have had only 4 pts in semis but had 7 rebounds and played 37 mins. He also had 9 and 11 in the quarters. Glad you're the one saying it and not Aidan. If a player can't deal with getting a transfer or new recruit at their position, requiring them to beat them out to keep their starting spot, and/or be willing to provide depth and help to the team off the bench if they lose that spot - then I want THEM to transfer.

It's called competition.
And it's called a TEAM.

Anyone and everyone looking out for #1 can go h00pz with their b0yz in AAU land somewhere else.

Is Hadaway even a 3? When he started for us, it was at the 4.

Right now, bringing in this Purdue dude doesn't even result in Hadaway on the bench, unless the D3 big ends up forcing his way into the starting lineup.

Hadaway played the "four" out of necessity because he and AJC on the floor together are better than AJC and Wiz on the floor together. And with IJ not available, having all of your forwards on the floor at the same time is a recipe for foul trouble and fatigue.

Hypothetically, if we landed Morton and he started alongside AJC and Hadaway; we’d be in much better shape with Searls and Evans off the bench to spell minutes. I don’t see a foul trouble or fatigue issue in that scenario. Maybe I’m putting too much stock into Evans, as long as he’s eligible he’s giving us more than IJ did and likely more quality minutes than Wiz.

I loved the growth out of Hadaway last year, but he has neither the defensive quickness, ball handling, passing nor outside shooting abilities to be a 3. He's a dynamic 4 who can be an energy guy, loose balls, rebounds, fast breaks and showed some okay post moves and good backdoor cutting/passing.

The problem for Hadaway is Clayton should be a 4 as well. What sends Aidan to the bench is us getting a starting center and sliding Clayton to the 4 IMO. I'm good with that though bc Hadaway as a 6th man/super sub would be phenomenal.

Yeah, this is where I am. Hadaway is a great, high energy four. But not yet an option at the three. Especially in a league like the MAC where true 3s are hard to come by, and usually teams are really just playing three guard lineups. Tough ask for Hadaway to guard 3s.

His playing time for the last 80 percent of the year consisted of defensive specialist and mop-up with walk-ons. The sample size is pretty small and not in great situations.

The team +/- when he played regular minutes was pretty good. Purdue just needed better athleticism on the wing after their FDU loss and he was the odd man out.

This feels like Groundhog Day all over again with us struggling to bring in a portal big.
We're not going to be bringing in any high level bigs through the portal. They're super expensive and we wouldn't be able to keep our roster together with the cost of some of them.

I personally know of a decent, not amazing forward at a MAAC school that is rumored to be getting offered $200,000 a year by Missouri.

Everyone wants big men with experience but there's not enough good ones out there so they all get gobbled up by the power conference schools. It's a much different story with guards and wing players.

I recently spoke with the Canisius Director of Athletics, Bill Maher. He told me that the majority of schools in the MAAC are setting up their NIL collectives aimed at player retention.

If you look at what Ohio has done the last few years, I think we can see that securing our own players is priority number one. We've been able to keep our roster together the past two offseasons for the most part. It's a plus that we've still been aggressive in the portal with Hunter, Baker, Mitchell, Wiz and Cornish.

I think it was important for Boals to retain Clayton, Mitchell, Brown, Hadaway etc... heading into the offseason. We already have a quality roster. Would be great to continue adding to it. Important to note that only a small percentage of the players in portal have signed at this point.

Strong adds by Akron, but we all know Groce can flat out recruit. I think FormerMember brings up an important point. Our MAC counterparts were gutted and have more roster space and likely NIL money available than us due our number of returnees.

That said, there is still size landing at the mid-major level. For example, South Dakota just picked up Oral Robert’s/Texas A&M transfer Ashton Smith. 6’9.

It sucks seeing Okonkwo, especially since we were in on him a year ago. I know these were P5 transfers, but I’m impressed national writers broke the visit news more than anything. Would love these kind of scoops as they’re happening.

I have a gut feeling there is a juco forward that had a 42 point game this season they are interested in but the guy doesn't seem like a twitter or instagram blabber. Thus when he signs somewhere it will seem totally out of the blue.

I don't think we recruit JUCO, no. I thought the Daniel Nixon and MJ Jacobs interest back in February was an indication of change, but we haven't really seen it otherwise.

I suppose either or both can still happen. However, it's odd to see schools like Bradley landing a 6'10 JUCO who averaged 12pgg and 10rpg while shooting 36% from 3; and App State bring in a 6'6 JUCO who averaged 19ppg and 5rpg and have no interest. Could we not use either or both of those types?
