Scored double figures in every game this season except two. Four double-doubles. Only played in 20 games though after playing 32 the prior year, so I wonder if he was hobbled with injury. Not sure what the deal is there. Didn't play a ton his first two years there, but once he finally saw the floor he was good.

I think this is a good depth add. It's size, experience, and he has the ability to hit a 3 (10/29; small sample I know) if needed. We could have used him this past season all things considered.

He almost feels like a poor man's Troy D'Amico and moneyball-like addition considering it's one year.

We've been connected to much more premium talent; I'm not too worried.

Which now leaves bigger $$ for the next portal target.

Good on the math by Boals. Nice strategy. Now time to reel in a bigger fish.

Searls has been second team Great Midwest Conference the past two years, despite missing 7 games this season.

From same league as J T Shumate.

Read in article that he had to lose 50 lbs to improve his game between freshman and junior years at Ashland.

How much did we spend and what's our budget?

Reminds me of Boals getting Tommy Schmock from Findlay a few years ago. If Searls can help OUr depth similar to what Schmock did for one season it'll end up a good signing.

As long as he can:

A.) Catch the ball
B.) Rebound the ball
And
C.) Set screens without moving feet

Then he’ll be a wonderful addition.

Should we assume he’s looking higher than us? Watching him in JMU’s first round game, Carey looked like he’s got a bright future. Handled the ball well for a big, was physical, looked like a good passer.

A true center and someone from a lower level. Two things the fan base has been clamoring for.
Huh? Who's clamoring for lower level talent? Some, including myself, have said we might be able to find some guys at lower levels and may have to settle for that at certain points, but I don't think that should be the aspiration or expectation.

I've read a lot of comments on here that basically said we missed out on quality lower level posts because we were too busy swinging for the fences on other guys we couldn't close on. This ought to satisfy those people.

We are recruiting "hard" Garrison Keeslar of D2 Walsh. 6'7" guard who averaged 15, 8, and 4.9 APG.

I find it hard to believe we could not aim for, and acquire a more formidable target. Sorry
It's a one year add. I don't think this is the premium addition we make in the portal, but a necessary depth piece given the unexpected loss of IJ this past season.

As I alluded to above, he seems like a formidable Wiz replacement. We have Evans coming in and our starting front court accounted for with two schollies remaining. Just to keep perspective.
Bingo.

This wasn’t meant to be sexy, this was meant to CYA. And look at it this way, IJ played 0 minutes in two years. This is his replacement. A four year player who has proven he can play (at a lower level) but we know he can give us minutes should Evans need extra time, Wiz doesn’t come back, etc. How many games last year did we just need to put a big body on someone? It’s not sexy, but I like the insurance.

I’m sure there will be another, but it seems we’ve learned from last year. Don’t get left at the alter.

His coach was just hired at Vandy.

If he has the grades, it would be hard to match their SEC level NIL $$

But...this guy (6-7 G/F) from the Nashville vicinity was buried on the bench at Tulsa and is already leaving there. His original offers out of h.s. included:
Florida
Tennessee
Ole Miss
Vanderbilt

Boals is now following Drew Thelwell, the point guard from Morehead State fresh off their tournament appearance. Would be a tremendous get, but he's surely looking for a bigger jump for his last season. 8 points, 4 assists, and 1 turnover against Illinois. He was really efficient in the couple of games I watched him. Knows his role and can play.

Count me as intrigued by this guy. Adding this kind of size and facilitation in guard form would be an interesting add to the roster.

He also followed Hofstra’s PG. I think you’re right that both are likely looking for a bigger jump.

Some, probably not a lot.

He brings a solid stache and headband game. Not at the level, but dare I say BVP-esque.

I'll also add we probably had to pay Clayton and Mitchell. I know that was an internal concern once the season ended. What we have left, remains to be seen and might not be a lot.

It would be cool someday if this info became available -- say to collective backers for the specific school, similar to professional team's salary caps.

I'll put him on BVP's level if, when the first opponent shoots the basketball after a whistle, Searls jumps up and swats the ball away from the basket. My son and I always enjoyed that about BVP and still talk about it. No one was better at this other than Kevin Garnett.

Always liked it when he did that too. I wonder if he only did it when he thought it was going in the basket. Don’t want your opponent to see that. Seeing it miss might be a good thing though.
