Ousmane from Xavier just went portal. Would have one season.

6-10/244 --> Exactly the defense in the paint we need.

He just had a double/double vs Georgia.

A move from Athens Ga. to Athens OH? I vote for that.

But his FT% went to crap last season. Needs to work on that.

I think we recruited Wheeling's Marcus Johnson out of high school, but can't remember. He's a BIG guard (6'7" and what looks about 230-250 at least). Has a great handle for a big guy and shot 45% from three last season. This might be my new favorite player in the portal. Went to Akron SVSM High School.

Toledo's Cochran caused fits for MAC defenses as a WIDE body guard. Johnson is taller and perhaps not so wide body as Cochran but having a Charles Barkley like body tough guy on your team suits me. Playing defense and having a body that is 4-5 inches wider makes drives to the hoop take a different angle and trying to get around the wide body for a rebound is nearly a waste of effort.

Did anyone in last year's portal thread predict Keyshawn Hall (UNLV>George Mason, lots of high school bouncing around) would transfer again? Time to cash in. Declaring for the NBA Draft and entering the portal.

I'm reading the GMU board and they are not at all sad about a 17ppg starter leaving.

Paraphrasing CBS sports:

The deadline for players to withdraw from the NBA Draft and retain their college eligibility means a handful of prospects have big decisions to make and big money at stake. Dozens will receive feedback from the NBA Draft Combine over their professional outlook and use that information to decide whether to remain in the draft or return to college.

and quote the NBA....

Under NBA rules, any such letter must be received by June 16, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. ET. (In order to maintain his NCAA eligibility, an Early Entry player must withdraw from the NBA Draft by the NCAA Early Entry withdrawal deadline – i.e., no later than May 29, 2024.), at 11:59 p.m. ET.

I hope not. If he comes I will root for him. But he seems to be another Clayton. I truly think to go to the next level (if we return our core) we need Ali Ali or heck, I'd take a Jon Smith.

Grabs more rebounds and shoots less threes (he's barely shot any in his career) than Clayton, so how is he similar? Because he's white and tall?

Ohio has reached out to Furman grad transfer Carter Whitt. Visiting Belmont this week. Other schools in the mix include Buffalo, Samford, Chattanooga, UNC Asheville, Oral Roberts and a handful of others.

Started his career at Wake Forest and had his best year last year for the Paladins. Not really sure what I see in a 1-year rental other than he's a proven commodity that can play right away.

Makes sense, he visited the portal season we got Jaylin and he seemed close to committing. I don’t think it matters if a guy has 1 year left or 3. Even if it’s the latter, he can still leave after 1 year anyway.

Yea, I don’t see an issue with Braun. He’s a proven post-presence. You also have to like the list of schools that have reached out to him as well to gauge.

Former Buffalo big David Skogman is transferring from Davidson. Of note, Davidson has no graduate programs, so transferring is inevitable there when you factor in redshirting and the Covid year.

Looks like OU has picked up a commitment from Victor Searls - 6'9" 245 grad student from Ashland. Averaged 15.4 points and 7.5 rebounds.

A true center and someone from a lower level. Two things the fan base has been clamoring for. Any official source for this?

Boals shared Searls IG announcement. This happened so under the radar it feels like a Wiz replacement/rotational add. Meaning, there might be some correlation between Searls being a one year add and Wiz opting to not use his final year. A quick Twitter search doesn’t show we previously contacted him like the others……that or it’s still painfully expensive to acquire height and Boals jumped on the first chance instead of being left empty handed.

I find it hard to believe we could not aim for, and acquire a more formidable target. Sorry

It's a one year add. I don't think this is the premium addition we make in the portal, but a necessary depth piece given the unexpected loss of IJ this past season.

As I alluded to above, he seems like a formidable Wiz replacement. We have Evans coming in and our starting front court accounted for with two schollies remaining. Just to keep perspective.

Wasn't there about a post about him when the portal opened?

From Hilliard? An upgrade from Wiz and I'm not a Wiz-hater.

Plus unless I saw it wrong, Searles hit almost 46% from three last season?

Huh? Who's clamoring for lower level talent? Some, including myself, have said we might be able to find some guys at lower levels and may have to settle for that at certain points, but I don't think that should be the aspiration or expectation.

I’m going to withhold judgment for now. I have to imagine that Boals with two scholarships remaining is still going to add more down low than just Mr. Searls.

I'm with you on that. If we think Wiz is gone and know for sure IJ is gone, then the front court is extremely depleted. It's an addition, but they need more.

Is anybody familiar with a 6-10 center at Ashland named Victor Searles?

He's in the portal looking for a grad transfer season (?)

Averaged around 15 & 8. Had 23 against Jason Terry's kid.

Went to St. Charles in Columbus.
Him. That guy. Now a Bobcat.
