WOW! Great! That's excellent news! And you know what? I'm glad we still have an eye on building with freshmen during the spring.

We offered in the fall of 2022. Another Orlando guy. Keep planting seeds.

Also had offers from Kansas State, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, LA Tech, WKU, Lamar, Drake, Murray State, Akron, and Rice.

Solid addition in Elliot. Props to staff for keeping the FL HS pipeline open. Hoping that means we can put that much more NIL money into a big via the portal and aren't losing a current guard in the portal last minute.

Guessing one of Burris or Elliot RS.

Looks like he re-opened his recruitment not long after Dusty May's announcement he was going to Michigan.

Hard to find tape on him because there is another Elijah Elliott from Rio Grande Valley with a ton of YouTube videos.

From what I'm seeing on Ohio's Elijah is that he's an athletic wing with playmaking ability. Hard to argue we couldn't always use more of that.

Twitter: @e5iivee

Dusty May's comments from the Owl's Nest.

https://www.fauowlsnest.com/news/view/men-s-basketball/-f...

"He's fiery. He's competitive. He's aggressive, energetic, a player who plays with a lot of emotion. He's got a big-big upside. He's already a difference maker on the defensive end.

From what I've found he's 6'2", so not a wing. And the article you linked has Dusty May describing him as a point guard, 6'3", 183#. The article calls him "a classic point guard with intangibles."

Yea, he's a PG. "He’s already a difference-maker on the defensive end. Offensively, he’s a pass-first point guard who gets to his spots and can create offense for his teammates.”

Technically, Pavaletzke is the only PG on the roster with Reef having the ability to do so in pinch. So, the addition helps.

One schollie left. All signs point to a big. Get it done.

New bigs staff is following:

Bruce Zhang, St. Louis
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...

Abou Osmane, Xavier/North Texas
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...

Khouri Carvey, Brunswick CC/Morehead State
https://www.gobccsports.com/sports/mbkb/2022-23/bios/carv...

Adam Afifi, Chico State (D2)/Cal State Northridge
https://chicowildcats.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/a...

Justice Ajogbor
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/...

Worth noting Carvey was a JUCO All-American as a freshman. Signed with Morehead State but then was granted released after the coach took James Madison job.

Osmane a bounce back guy and also from Brooklyn (s/o greencat).

Ajogbor would classify as that rim protector we desperately need. Averaged 3 BPG this past season.

Zhang and Afifi are just kinda eh, but would be size.
It doesn't appear we are aggressively going after Afifi according to the portal report.

Hot damn. Impressive. I assume the FAU verbal was pulled when the coach left?

Those long arms. Yes, great for "D"

Sheldon is not a backup PG?

Optimistic on getting a nice surprise veteran big guy. They are out there.

I view Sheldon like Reef, someone capable of bringing the ball up in a pinch but not really a true PG. Sheldon is an absolute bucket from 3, though.

If what May says above is true about Elliot (pass-first/creates offense for teammates), I think he runs the backup PG spot and that actually frees up Sheldon to do what he does best -- catch and shoot from deep.

I’m ok with that, he’s the least interesting out of that bunch. Our portal big addition will likely come out of left field like Pavaletzke and Elliot have.

Jeff Boals is speaking at an employee luncheon at Nationwide HQ in Columbus today. My son has been assigned to corner him for insight into the search for a big man.

WMU big man Javonte Brown is one of the last to go in the portal. We were on him heavy last year. I would definitely be happy if we got him now.

If this guy is motivated by the highest bidder as apparently was the case last year only to bolt in pursuit of his fourth school when he didn't start at his loser third school whom we obliterated in the tournament, then no thank you.

Or maybe he’s been humbled and has had an attitude change. Still worth a phone call in my opinion to find out.

I greatly admire how selective our staff appears to be in navigating transfers. We should not sell our souls for talent and it does not appear that we are. Consider the transfers we have taken on under Boals:

-Ohio is their second stop after playing at peer or better schools: Hunter, Wilson, Mitchell, Wiz, Cornish. I don't quibble much with one such change of scenery.

-Lower division players who have graduated and want their shot at D1 for their final year: Schmock, Searles

Boals felt he needed to consult Jason Preston and BVP to bring back Jason Carter for his final year of elibility.

Remains to be seen on Pavaletzke, but you can at least surmise the thought progression. Excellent at peer or slightly lower D1, takes a crack at P5, outlook not so bright, so he lands at Ohio for a "right" fit. I think that's what's happening. I would be surprised if he doesn't finish out with us.

Am I missing anyone? We don't seem to be aggressively going after anyone who appears to be a chronic job hopper.

Has your son ever thought about being a sports writer? Also, I didn't think we had two open scholarships?

7. Nicol

Newcomers

8. Burris

He listed out heights. Does that mean we’ve got commits? But agreed with Fear. Unless we’re about to find out that someone else is dipping out on the last day (today).

Subtract: Ike, IJ, Gabe, Miles, Jaylin, + unused schollie.

Add: Evans, Burris, Searls, Paveletske, Elliot

Only getting one. Trying to think if we've been connected to any 6'11 guys.

Who is the giant in Ohio MBB most recent Instagram post?

Aiden is the tallest one in the photo... until you look in the back to a guy in a black polo - all the players are in white polos - and its not AJC...

With our luck we'd have a 7ft manager and not one playing basketball.

Searls confirmed as the 6'9 transfer, so that leaves us waiting on the 6'11.
