Nothing about his highlights make me think he will do anything in the MAC. I watched several videos and saw him play no defense in the highlights. Saw no rebounds. What I did see was shoot first mentality and an aggressive out of control handle to the hoop that guys like Cian Medley and Sherron Young would destroy (yes, I know both are gone but both were great MAC guards). If this is our starting PG entering next year we are cooked.

So he will be a 20 year old Freshman, is that how this works?

Based on all clips and everything I see, he doesn't seem to have an outside shot? Which single handedly makes me say meh. Sure I love a good PG drive to the hoop but I prefer my point guards excel at dishing and draining.

But as others said, this is more of a "recruiting" page type of update not a portal, right?

Here’s a more recent clip from Che playing in NBL. He’s hitting 3’s/showing mid-range and went for 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. KDA is our starting PG, but I don’t see the need to be dismissive of Che just yet.

We had 7 spots to fill. 5 remain. I like the add.

He's good enough to play on the Australian U19 Team, so I don't think the MAC is too big of a stage for him.

Good finds. The initial clips I posted don’t do Che justice.

If he was 6’0/6’1, yea, I’d get the lukewarm response. Kid is crafty and is 6’5. Similar style to Josh Giddey. He’s a fun add from a different background that a lot of us have been clamoring for to diversify the roster a bit more.

Size alone should allow him to get space and create disruptions on defense. Sign me up. Kuany is also Australian, so maybe that was a factor as well.

I'm not saying he won't provide some depth at guard, however...

Giddey is like 6-8...and... was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft. Giddey is the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double, having done so at 19 years, 84 days old. He also became the first rookie since Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson in 1961 to record three consecutive triple-doubles.

A Kuany was mentioned in one of the videos. That is Kiir's younger brother Mading.

If we have an in with Centre of Excellence.... yo....

Thanks for the history lesson. You’re taking the word “style” and blowing it way out of context. Che’s play encompasses a similar way that Giddey plays. There was no implication that he’s an equal player to Giddey.

Mading Kuany, Kiir's younger brother, had played for Centre for Excellence but transferred to a prep school in Iowa. He's Class of 2026.

Mading was at a game in the Convo this year and sat close to me and we briefly chatted. Not sure if he was visiting as a potential recruit or just to see/visit his brother.

Che looked good on the jab step back bomb. Looks like he gets the shots off pretty quickly. I like lefty point guards. Seems like a good use of a scholarship considering the prior get of the experienced Albany/Alexander to show Che the ropes.

We’ve contacted Old Dominion’s Robert Davis Jr. 6’6 and averaged 10ppg. Not a very strong shooter overall. 33% with 59/84 shots made being 3’s.

We’ve shown interest in Wichita State’s Dre Kindell. From Cincy, 5’11 PG. Averaged 6ppg off bench and shot 45%. Have to wonder how dated this after KDA/Che commits.

Great pickup. I don’t think we’ll see any drop off from Pav to Kyler
Color me meh.

We're replacing Jackson Paveletzke with a D2, Horizon League Star who played on thier worst team. Paveletzke played at Iowa State. Won a Big 12 Championship. Played in the NCAA Tournament. Came to Ohio and was Second Team All-MAC averaging 17 and 5 assists in a conference where the top team went 32-2. That didn't get us very far either, by the way, so the idea that a third team All-Horizon guard from a 7-win program is going to move the needle is, let's say, optimistic.
Good kid, local story is nice, hope he surprises me. But cutting nets in March? Let's focus on not finishing 15-17 first.

I loved Jackson coming in, because he was taking a step down again after being a great player at Wofford before he went to ISU. Btw, he played a grand total of NINE minutes in the Big 12 tournament and NCAA Tournament 1st round game you mentioned. He didn't even play in the 2nd round game.

It's not like the MAC is so far above the Horizon that Kyler couldn't do the same at Ohio that he did a Indy. And how are you going to fault a kid for their team being bad? Seems to me like he was doing just fine and needed some help. Him scoring 20+ ppg seemed like the least of their worries. I'm not gonna cut the kid off at the knees before I see him play. To each their own, but Ohio is desperate for help at just about every position that Javan Simmons doesn't play. I'll take a 3rd team All-Horizon guard to plug a hole every day.
