Great pickup. I don’t think we’ll see any drop off from Pav to Kyler
Color me meh.
We're replacing Jackson Paveletzke with a D2, Horizon League Star who played on thier worst team. Paveletzke played at Iowa State. Won a Big 12 Championship. Played in the NCAA Tournament. Came to Ohio and was Second Team All-MAC averaging 17 and 5 assists in a conference where the top team went 32-2. That didn't get us very far either, by the way, so the idea that a third team All-Horizon guard from a 7-win program is going to move the needle is, let's say, optimistic.
Good kid, local story is nice, hope he surprises me. But cutting nets in March? Let's focus on not finishing 15-17 first.
I loved Jackson coming in, because he was taking a step down again after being a great player at Wofford before he went to ISU. Btw, he played a grand total of NINE minutes in the Big 12 tournament and NCAA Tournament 1st round game you mentioned. He didn't even play in the 2nd round game.
It's not like the MAC is so far above the Horizon that Kyler couldn't do the same at Ohio that he did a Indy. And how are you going to fault a kid for their team being bad? Seems to me like he was doing just fine and needed some help. Him scoring 20+ ppg seemed like the least of their worries. I'm not gonna cut the kid off at the knees before I see him play. To each their own, but Ohio is desperate for help at just about every position that Javan Simmons doesn't play. I'll take a 3rd team All-Horizon guard to plug a hole every day.
