Is it possible that Boals guaranteed no one a role besides Simmons because how awful this season was?

I also look at this from the lens of agents. They see a their client, JJ in this case, have a solid but unspectacular freshman year. They claim he should be paid based on having a bigger role this upcoming year instead of what he just did. “You currently have one other starter, you need JJ more now than ever” angle.

This seems most likely.

If Boals told everyone nobody is safe and it shook everyone, unfortunate, but ultimately - good. I would've done it in December. If he and his agent asked for money based on a potentially increased leadership role, hypothetical increase in production... but his results shouldn't guarantee a starting a role let alone Simmons money.

He's a freshman, and he's solid, but fairly limited offensively and despite being 6'6" doesn't rebound much either.

I would have loved him back, but the only person I'm sweating is Fisher (or Simmons if he bails), cause I think he is a difference maker, in extremely limited time. And perhaps he's not, if he couldn't see the floor on that team.

Next season is wide open - I'm excited to see what they can bring in.

Seeing an entirely different team with an entirely different identity is what this whole team needs. I just hope it's a team with identified roles and not the seven highest rated guards out of HS that we could find.
