My sources have told me that Toby Nwokolo, who played a total of 16 minutes as a 6-6 frosh at Toledo this past year, is portaling and plans on joining former h.s. teammates McKinney and Bowens in Athens next year. Boals offered him a scholly when he was in high school before he signed with UT.
Meanwhile, 6-2 Reynoldsburg sophomore Mekhi Roddy has been offered by most Ohio MAC schools, including Ohio.
If that's true, you'd have three plays who on paper seem very similar in position within two adjacent classes (Kelly, Bowens, Nwokolo). Throw on Devin Royal pursuit and there are questions about roster construction:
1) If you were to get Royal, how do you use him? Is he a three? I've read he's more naturally a four, but if you play him there, where is Simmons? The five again? Is our starting front court gonna go 6'7" and 6'6"?
2) Can Kelly play the two guard? That'd be great as long as that three point percentage can go up.
3) Even if you don't get Royal, what is the vision for the group of Kelly, Nwokolo, Bowens, and heck even Mosley, Burris, and Kuany who are all in that combo-wing-forward group who are all within a class of each other? Is there a plan for all them to play cohesively in time? Or are we getting a bunch of similar guys and hoping a few of them solidify themselves?
I would hate to see Kelly get relegated to the bench.
