WMU’s strong portal haul continues. Hawaii’s Isaac Finlinson. 6’8 and averaged 9ppg and 4rpg while shooting 39% from 3.

My guy is built like Manute Bol. Gonna be frigid in those Michigan winters.

Akron lands North Texas’s Buddy Hammer Jr. 6’7, 4ppg. A year removed from JUCO level where he was honorable mention All-American.

BG gets 7 foot South Carolina transfer Christ Essandoko. Best season was two years ago at St. Joe’s where he started 14 games and averaged 8ppg and 6rpg. Had a stop at Providence prior to South Carolina.

Nice buy low on size for BG.

Kelly to UTSA. He’ll certainly have opportunities to shine on a 5 win team from this past season.

Serious head scratcher for me. Both the departure and the landing…..

The departure was not a suprise to me. The landing is a slight surprise. I thought he might end up some place like Gettysburg College, since it's just a short ways down Chambersburg Pike from his hometown. Probably just my channeling of Civil War ancestors, one of whom fought at Gettysburg. Seriously, he'd be starter at Gettysburg College. He'd look good in blue and orange!

JJ’s caption in his commitment announcement is “it’ll all make sense in the end”. Reading between the lines, sounds like he’s one and done at UTSA and probably knows how it looks.

He’ll likely try to raise his stock and parlay it into more at a stop he actually prefers.

That’s how I read it. “I couldn’t go where I wanted so I’ll bet on me to play well this year and end up somewhere better next year.”

Feels like the staff is really gonna regret that if they can't find a viable wing to replace him.

Hopefully Siebe announcement is soon. But we still need a viable bench as well. 3 spots remaining. Really makes you wonder what happened between Kelly and the staff.

If true, the UTSA staff has to be thrilled. Or is that just another example of where college sports is these days?

One of those 3 spots will not be filled by Corneilous Williams.

He is headed to Memphis. May have been out of our $$ range. Good player.

UTSA is right next to Six Flags. Maybe he likes rollercoasters.

Kelly had a solid freshman year, but he didn't make the MAC all-freshman team, has some holes in his game, and ultimately had a pretty solid year for a .500 team in a bad conference.

The folks here that thought he was going to the P5 have a pretty inflated view of what the MAC is now. The transfer portal looks for elite talent and experience. Kelly has neither. His P5 opportunity may come when he's 22, but he's got a long ways to go.

People that have an unrealistic view of our talent level is not new.

I won't give specific examples to avoid another flame war.

Instead of mentioning former Bobcats Kevin Durant and Dennis Rodman plus the incoming Larry Bird guy, I will simply remind all that for somebody to nickname a mediocre reverse guard "walking bucket" who would be nothing more than an afterthought walk-on at a major conference school if that....

Flame away. Won't cost me a red cent.

Is this a track team or a basketball team? Do we need athletic players?

I maintain it was a really dumb decision to leave the team (and again, not entertaining the theory he wasn't welcomed back until I hear some decent evidence). He never really got to be a huge part of the offense with Pavs bringing the ball up and Hadaway/Simmons being destinations in the offense, but it was obvious that was going to change big time next year. I think he was prime for a huge sophomore year, and then a leap to a power conference if he so choose. Maybe that still happens for him, but sure seems like it would've looked better here (and not school hopping).

It is a huge get for UTSA given the state of their program.

Instagram-era of college athletics. So many kids getting horrible advice from their agent uncle cousin. Everyone telling you you're bigger than the MAC. Need those likes and love from the twittersphere. I think he himself had a pretty inflated view of what his game is now. All I need to do is prove I can play D1 and then all these teams will be beating down my door!

I can't remember where I wrote it at this point, but I certainly didn't think he was bound for the P5. I figured some lowly team is gonna have to move funds around to get him or he'd end up stashed at the end of a P5 bench, cause they're the only ones with money left. Looks like it was the latter.

Nothing about his situation is that surprising to me. If he told Boals he wanted to test the waters, and Boals told him to kick rocks - I don't blame him. If he thought he was bound for the Penn State practice squad, but they didn't want him - enjoy your time 1,600 miles from home. If he's already making it known he's a one and done and he's better than them before he even touches the court... good luck. By the looks of it, this was likely his only offer. Maybe they had a nice purse to sway him.

I think at his size he could've developed into a really solid MAC player. Now he looks like a five schools in five years guy.
