Team meeting Wednesday with agents in the ears of several Bobcats as we speak. Look for announcements after the meeting.

If we end up with Evans and Burris starting next season it will be like the 5-win season starring that offensive juggernaut Basra Fakhir.

If Walking Bucket and Paducah Community College are starting next year, I don’t think we win 2 games.

This program is in shambles. We are light years away from being elite in the much maligned MAC conference!

While I’m also disappointed in this team’s performance and the results Boals has been getting the past few years, this opinion and many that I see on this board about our basketball program are absolutely clownish.

You all act like we’re the doormat of the conference when in reality we’re middle of the road. Should we be better? Absolutely, but be serious. We’re 2-3 hits in the portal/recruiting away from being a top contender in the MAC just like literally every other team outside of the bottom 3.

Pavs was a portal hit. Simmons was a portal hit. Hunter was a portal hit.

We had to hit on the portal to maintain our spot in the middle of the conference. We are going to have to basically double our hit rate to get substantially better

Boals has had pretty good top of the roster talent; he's failed to put the right supporting role players around them consistently.

I just watched SEC player of the year Darius Acuff on TV with 30 points and 11 assists against a team projected to be a 3-seed in the NCAA tournament. He is the TRUE definition of a "walking bucket" and there is not a player currently in the MAC in his league. He might be the first player taken in the NBA draft.

It would be pretty cool if we actually had a guy 60% of the "walking bucket" he is. I think our so-called "walking bucket" couldn't make either team I just watched even as a walk-on.

Not sure how I missed this but Basra Fakhir was a physical specimen. Dude was a man. Undersized as a PF at 6'6 but he was solidly 230 lbs and had a 40 inch vertical. He could defend. He could rebound. We haven't had a player who could come close to him physically since DWIII.

You just described most of the teams in the MAC outside of Miami, Kent, Akron, and the few teams that don’t even have any top of the roster talent.

I don't follow. You said we're 2-3 portal hits from contention; I pointed out that we've had portal hits, and we're not contenders because we don't have enough talent in the bottom half of our lineup. And now you're suggesting that's just par for the course in the KAC, except for the good teams.

Don't we need to be one of the good teams to be a contender?

He averaged 6 points per game for his college career.
We went 5-21 when he was a senior.

While our current reserve post players are built like Olive Oyl from the Popeye cartoons and one in particular couldn't bench press more than the average little old lady working a register at Walmart, being built like an NFL middle linebacker is no guarantee the team won't go 5-21. Having some post players with actual skills AND muscles would be nice. (Simmons not withstanding who has both)

That's OK, I'm just sensitive to slights on Paducah, before I left Murray State I was nominated to become a Duke of Paducah, which was sort of a poor man's Kentucky Colonel. Just trying mess with your mind a little. All in good-natured fun.

Simmons wasn't a hit until the last 15 games though. If he stays, that will make a nice piece to build something around.

And unfortunately, the top (2) of the roster talent came from somewhere else, and the supporting players were all dudes from within the program.

And I still think (pray) that Evans could be a nice off the bench guy. It's still unfathomable to me a kid with that much size and athleticism can't be productive on the floor in a conference that generally lacks traditional big men. Hands up real high. Grab the ball. Don't need you to do anything else. Grab rebounds. Effect shots in the paint. Don't even consider leaving the paint. Hands up. You can do it.

Love your optimism concerning Evans, but you are definitely in the minority here. I'm not seeing what you are seeing. After two years of not being able to crack lineups that produced two consecutive seasons of losing records against D-One teams, Evans just punched his ticket to West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Evans = athleticism??

Really? Seriously? Played in 11 of 31 games. Averaged 1 rebound per game. Shot 16% from three. If he went in the portal tomorrow, how many schools on the MAC level or higher would want him?

I don't think this is true. Simmons was excellent over his last 15 games, but he was still a good player prior to that.

In his first 16 games he had an excellent TS% (59.5%), excellent offensive rebound percentage (10.6%), strong PER (22.6), scored 22 points/40 minutes, and got to the line in the 91st percentile nationally.

He was always good. He got better.

As a Freshman, Evans had the worst rebound rate for an Ohio big in 20+ seasons. As a sophomore, it got worse.

He's not good at the things you think he should be able to do. He's not ever going to contribute for Ohio basketball, and it's time to move on.

Fair…

BUT

A boy can dream.

He’s 6’10 and can windmill dunk. The idea that we can’t teach this kid to rebound is just so bizarre I can’t process it. So I will hold on to hope someone has been flooding his inbox with Dennis Rodman videos.
