ATHENS, Ohio – Tyler Tettleton connected on two touchdown passes to tight end Zac Clark to highlight the annual spring Saturday at Peden Stadium.

Tettleton completed 11 of 21 passes for 151 yards, while Kyle Snyder was 5 of 12 for 65 yards. Phil Bates has sat out practice this spring while recovering from shoulder surgery.

“They both can play and they have the ability to run this football team and make throws,” Ohio coach Frank Solich said. “They need to keep improving but I like what they’ve been able to do so far. You can see movement and that’s all I need to see at this point and time. … I liked how they handled themselves today. That’s going to be a key for us.”

Ten different receivers caught passes, led by true freshman Landon Smith, who graduated from high school early to join spring practice. He had three catches for 53 yards.

Notre Dame transfer and quarterback-turned-tight end Derek Roback had three catches for 34 yards. Clark had scoring grabs of 23 and one yards, and Chris Johann had a 41-yard reception.

Snyder led the Bobcats on the ground with 11 carries for 44 yards. Ryan Boykin carried seven times for 29 yards.

Indiana transfer Kyle Kozak impressed the most on defense with three sacks and four tackles overall.

“It was definitely what I was brought here to do and I plan on doing that every single play,” Kozak said.

The Bobcats are looking to replace all four starters and a top reserve on the defensive line.

“I like the guys who are coming back and I’d like more of them, but they can be very good football players,” Solich said. “We will miss some of the guys we lost, but we’re not void of having good football players. If those guys continue to develop, they’ll go from being good players to better players. I like our incoming freshmen and some of those guys will have to give us some depth. I think we can put a good defensive front on the field.”

Linebacker Blake Jones led all players with five tackles. Junior college recruit Moses Denton had four sacks, including a half-sack.

Matt Weller and Kyle Clinton both kicked field goals.

The Bobcats complete their spring practice season with drills on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Peden Stadium.
