Ohio Goes for Two at Pitt

It was mission accomplished for the Ohio football team after its 42-14 opening win over VMI. But now the bar gets raised as the Bobcats travel to take on the University of Pittsburgh where they haven't won in six tries. The Panthers were to have opened Monday night versus South Florida but that was wiped out by Hurricane Frances. Instead, Pitt will debut an offensive unit against Ohio that has eight new starters.

Gone from the Panther offense are star QB Rod Rutherford, WR Larry Fitzgerald and TE Kris Wilson. 6-2, 220-pound junior Tyler Palko will take over at quarterback but an early week bout with the flu has even put a question mark on that. Pittsburgh head coach Walt Harris says backup QB Joe Flacco will be in for a drive or two no matter what. Junior Erik Gill takes over for Wilson at tight end. The Panther receiving corp is young as two sophomores and five freshman comprise the top seven spots on the two-deep.

The last time these two teams met Pitt downed Ohio 27-13. In that game, the OU defense held Pitt to 183 yards of total offense as the offense outgained the Panthers by almost 100 yards. Six Bobcat turnovers and two missed field goals proved too much to overcome. A crowd of 55,000 is anticipated at Heinz Field Saturday night.
