Huge first half lifts Ohio to easy victory against St. Francis
Bobcats go on 36-6 run in less than 10 minutes

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio put six players in double-figures and went on a 36-6 run late in the first half in an 87-59 blowout of St. Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats (6-4) shot 61.3 percent in the first half and finished the game with 15 made 3-pointers in 29 attempts.

D.J. Cooper went 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points, four rebounds and five assists in 21 minutes. Tommy Freeman made 5 of his 6 3-point tries to finish with 15 points – all of them in the first half – and Nick Kellogg was 3 of 4 on treys, finishing with 12 points.

DeVaughn Washington, Ivo Baltic and T.J. Hall finished with 10 points apiece.

Will Felder had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Flash (2-8) and Umar Shannon scored his team’s first 11 points and finished the game with 16 points.

Tied at 15, Cooper hit a 3-pointer with 11:09 left in the first half to start an 11-0 run.

Later with a 29-20 advantage, Ohio scored nine points in a row, and it later added a stretch of 12 straight points in taking a 51-21 lead on Adetunji Adedipe’s layup 1:32 before halftime.

The Bobcats’ biggest lead of the game was 80-39 on an Adedipe layup with 8:43 remaining in the game.

Despite committing 17 turnovers, the Bobcats held a 26-21 advantage in points off turnovers. They also scored 24 second-chance points thanks to 16 offensive boards and finished with 31 points in the paint to only 12 for St. Francis.

The Red Flash shot 37 percent (20 of 54) while the Bobcats were 32 of 61 (52.5 percent).

Cooper scored Ohio’s first 10 points of the second half and had 13 points after the break. Felder had 16 second-half points for St. Francis.

Ohio travels to St. Bonaventure for a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
