ATHENS, Ohio – IUPUI went on a late 18-0 run to rally from a 10-point deficit and defeat Ohio, 66-56, at The Convo on Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats led 49-39 with 8:25 remaining on a DeVaughn Washington layup but did not score again until leading scorer D.J. Cooper got his first points with a pair of free throws with 1:20 remaining.

Cooper finished with just four points on 1 of 9 shooting, but Tommy Freeman came out of a slump by scoring 17 points with five 3-pointers. Washington had 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Reggie Keely had 13 points and seven boards for the Bobcats (5-4).

Leroy Nobles connected on five 3-pointers and led the Jaguars (5-6) with 23 points, and he got plenty of help from Alex Young, who scored 21 points, with a 10 of 10 free throw performance, and had five rebounds.

Ohio missed 11 straight field goal tries until a Freeman 3-pointer cut the deficit to seven with 45 seconds left, but IUPUI hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch and 20 of 24 overall. Ohio was just 7 of 13 at the line.

Christian Siakam, despite being plagued by foul trouble, had seven points and a team-best 10 boards, and his three-point play began the Jaguards’ rally after they trailed by 10.

Nobles, who scored 13 points in the final 7:24, hit a 3-pointer, and Donovan Gibbs had a tip-in with 6:33 remaining to quickly cut IUPUI’s deficit to two points. Nobles gave his team the lead with 3:56 to go and then made it a four-point game by burying another shot beyond the arc.

IUPUI’s 18-0 run followed a 9-0 Ohio run. The Bobcats led 40-39 when Keely and Washington combined to score the game’s next nine points.

Neither team led by more than four points in the first half and by more than two in the final 12:58 of the first half.

The Bobcats had a 39-32 advantage on the boards to help make up for an 18-11 turnover disadvantage.

Cooper had six rebounds and six assists, but also six turnovers.

It was the third straight time in fourth occasion in five games the Bobcats shot less than 40 percent. Ohio eclipsed 47 percent in three of its first four games this year.

Outside of Freeman, Keely and Washington, Ohio was 4 of 24, including 2 of 12 on 3-pointers.

Ohio hosts St. Francis (Pa.) at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
