Ohio's season came to an end with a 56-54 loss at Bowling Green Monday night in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Falcons (14-16) advance to play Kent St. in the MAC Quarterfinals Thursday at Gund Arena. For the second time in 3 years, the Bobcats (10-20) saw their season end in the tournament's first round.
It was a game that followed the pattern of many Ohio losses this season where the Bobcats fell behind only to find a furious comeback fall tantalizingly short. This time, Ohio looked finished as it trailed Bowling Green 53-43 with 3:03 left in the game. But Terren Harbut and Thomas Stephens combined to score all 11 points on an Ohio run that tied the game at 54 with 43.7 seconds left. John Reimold then hit one of two free throws after being fouled by Diamond Gladney. After a Harbut miss, Ron Lewis was also one of two from the line to put BG up 56-54. On Ohio's last possession, a Harbut shot was ruled a jump ball but the Cats kept the ball. The inbounds pass went to Jaivon Harris whose 3-pointer was off the mark and a couple of Ohio putback attempts were swatted away as the game ended.
Harbut had his best game as a Bobcat recording his first double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Stephens chipped in with 14 points and 7 boards. Harris, the team's leading scorer, was held to 5 points and was 0-for-6 on 3-point attempts. For BG, Ron Lewis led the way with 19 points. Kevin Netter and John Reimold had 11 points apiece.
