I don't care how good you are and that your philosophy is aggressive serving, you can't spot the other team 4+ points a game.

Cats survive the match, 3-2, staving off 2 Ball State match points in the 5th set. The fans I talk to thought we were outplayed. Maybe it was our B game beating their A game.

As mentioned above, service errors almost did us in, a 13 point swing between the teams.

Ball had defeated OHIO the last 2 times they visited the Convo. RS soph. Ali Lake with her best match, with 18 kills. Ladies stay unbeaten in the MAC.

Toledo tonight at 7.

Yep - only 4 - a whole lot better. With the rally format, you can't literally spot a team 21 and hope to win every night.

New user here and I'm excited to be a part of the boards. I've taken notice of these conversations and I'm glad to be with you guys. I had the chance to sit down and watch the games on Fri/Sat and the serving performances looked very different. I couldn't make the trip to the Saturday match, so I tuned in online and heard Deane talk about Friday's serving performance. Interesting stat he pulled out, saying this year's team is serving at 88%, just 2% worse from last year (and we all know how great last year's team was at serving). Not sure if any of you caught that either. Still, you can't spot that many points in a match, especially against Ball State, who's known for being hot/cold this year.

Everyone certainly is right about the serving errors, but at the same time, you can't just serve it to get it in. You have to serve aggressively or the opponent is going to get an easy serve receive and set and blast it back at you. Being the serving team needs to be to your advantage.

It's now a matter of black and white though. At the end of the day, if you don't get the ball over, the other team doesn't have an opportunity to goof it up.

Exactly. At least make them work for points. Handing a team free points is never a good idea.
