by the time I got the Webcast on, the Bobcats were already celebrating. It appears they took the last loss to NIU personally. I wonder if they'll ever get tired of kicking ass. Way to go OHIO!

It was very impressive, Ted. They dominated the first two sets with focus and determination. Close for a while in the third and then Abby G, Mal Salis, and Meredith Ashy made key plays to put the game out of reach just after the mid point. Abby's one touch spike was massive in the flow of the game.
In summation, HOPA!!!!

Completely agree.

The Cats were clicking on all cylinders tonight -- blocking, digging, passing, attacking --- there isn't a team in the MAC that could have hung with us tonight.

The two best teams in the MAC were playing tonight -- and it was fun to watch. Northern did not quit. I love their coach; Ray Gooden is a class act and a really good guy. They will be a force again next year.

What a resilient group of young women! Great work by Coach Webb, seniors and everyone else getting things turned around in November.

Abby, passed over for MAC POY, takes home tourney MVP honors. Just super.

Attendance? From the vidcast, I couldn't get a good view but what was visible seemed to show the lower bowl pretty full.

That was the most focused and determined I think I have ever seen this team. Unbelievable to see in person.

How soon do we find out the brackets for the NCAA tourney? This weekend?

For Saturday, the count was a touch over 2400 and the crowd on Sunday night was at least the same. Not sure if that's a MAC tourney record but, if not, it has to be pretty freakin' close. (Won't see those numbers in Dekalb, I'd wager.)

The selection show for placements will be Sunday night at 9PM to answer the other question.

The official box score shows the attendance at 2,736 for the Championship.

I think I can guarantee that no championship match in the last 10 years has reached that level...either in Toledo or Geneva.

Our Bobcats seemed to make all the big plays in this match. We saved our best play for the right night! Northern had no counter for all the great shots we seemed to be making all night. They came out fired up in the third set and never gave up, but Ohio just had too much going on for them handle. Great Win for the Bobcats!

Hitting .366 is like batting .600 in baseball. Only 9 attack errors and only 6 service errors. For some reason Northern concentrated on stopping the middle attack leaving outside and backside one on one for most of the night. Also our ability to attack effectively from the back row is something most teams can't handle. And Karch Kiraly couldn't hit one past Meredith Ashy last night.

And a rowdy crowd having fun. Ohio's average home attendance is 2,310. That's 12th best in all of D1! Home attendance is higher than any Pac-12 school, one of the 2 dominant conferences in the country.

Congratulations to OHIO Volleyball for another successful season. As noted by many here, this past weekend was total team domination- both the offense and defense were ‘spot on’ in both matches.

A successful top 30 season took a nose-dive about a month ago after the following:
Miami sweeps Ohio in Oxford
Northern sweeps Ohio in DeKalb
Kent easily takes out of the Cats in 4 sets in Athens

These 3 teams turned out to be the teams that made it to Athens for the final 4 show down.

It was back then that the coaches reassessed some things, and made changes in player assignments and play style. The offense particularly changed- Mal Salis moved to OH while Shelby Walker returned to her former position as MB. They sped up the offensive flow along with other adjustments.

They had 2 weeks to put this into place before the tourney. Ohio won their next 4 games easily. Perhaps it gave them the opportunity against some weaker opponents to work things out.

Ohio was in total control in the semis and in the final. I never imagined the Cats would win so convincingly over teams that dominated them less than a month ago.

So one shout out goes to Coach Dean Webb and his staff for making the adjustments needed and being able to get player buy-in to execute them.

Another shout out goes to the defense that’s been strong all year. Kent’s defense on Saturday was no match. 102 digs for the weekend. Congrats to Meredith Ashy (all conference tourney team), Erica Walker, Brooke Coleman, and Bree Hord.

And congrats to the re-invented offense, with a team .366 hitting % to .109 for NIU. Mal Salis who was phenomenal: 19 kills (in 3 sets!). And key performances from Jaime Kosiorek (10 kills), Ali Lake (6), Karin Bull (6) and Shelby Walker (6).

And let’s not forget Abby Gilleland, our setter extraordinaire and tourney MVP.

Good luck against Dayton and good luck in the Big Dance!

Go OHIO
