What is Katie's injury? Will she be back at all? I believe she has already red-shirted one year. Is a medical red shirt a possibility? Would she use it?

Katie suffered a concussion in the Dayton match (same match in which Jamie suffered the ACL injury). Whether/when she will return is anybody's guess, but we have missed her badly.

Katie did red-shirt her freshman year. Could they apply for a hardship/sixth year? Probably. Will they? I wouldn't bet on it. In my experience, few volleyball players have even stuck around for a fifth year when they red-shirt. They tend to be academically sound/strong, and graduate in four years. Not like they're angling for a professional career...

The only thing I might add here is that Katie and Jaime have been close friends since they arrived. Jaime has already said she'll be back, so it not impossible that Katie might want to join her..

Redshirting in volleyball is trickier than in football especially with a senior. Normally, all of next year's scholarships that were supposed to be open (seniors) are committed to someone else (normally incoming freshman).

In football, there is enough roster turnover that it all kind of washes out. In volleyball, someone who expected a scholarship may be asked to give it up if a senior redshirts and is on scholarship.

Hope she is ok.

Regarding getting a medical hardship (redshirt) year, the rule says 3 games lost or 30% games not played, whichever is greater. She was injured in game 4, so does that game count, I doubt it but I don’t know.

But the big issue is getting the 6th year. In the unlikely scenario that she would opt for it, she would have to show that the 2 lost seasons were out of her control. I wouldn’t think a freshman developing year would fit their interpretation of ‘out of control’ .

I don't know about her current condition. I suspect she's working out with the team but no idea at what level. If she's not working out at all, I would assume her season is over. Let's hope she'll be back soon and be ready for the tourney.

Great to hear Ali has been cleared, any word on katie? With Katie back, the line up that looked pretty good against Dayton would be restored.
