What a great show tonight.  THEY REALLY PLAYED WELL WITH REALLY NO LET DOWNS.  They showed no mercy  As I said in an earlier post, the frosh are very good and made some tremendous plays tonight.  Katie did play with enthusaism and was motivatrd at the net.  Three blocks on one point was great.  I do believe they are on their way to another championship.

What prompted the red card?

Also, I think the idea that Katie is not a leader because she's not stomping around and yelling to be silly. Leaders can be quiet. Don't ask someone to be something they're not.

Have to agree with JSF on leadership.  Derek Jeter leads without all the histrionics.  Also, none of us are on the team, so none of us knows what goes on inside the team, in terms of leadership or anything else.  The results are what matters, and the results this weekend were pretty darn good.

I talked to Ryan about the red cards after the match.

They were both for delay of game; the first when they were late coming out of the locker room before the third set.  Officially, a yellow card is supposed to precede a red card.   Miami was supposed to serve to start the third set -- so in that case a yellow card results in a side-out (and thus, a point).  The delay warrants a red  card, which is a point penalty -- hence the 2-0 start to the third set.

Second red card was apparently a delay in the libero getting on the court.  Ryan actually thought that was a little questionable.  I was tied up in post-game activtities or I would have asked the officials myself (I know them both from my coaching days).

Anyway, great to start off 2-0 in the MAC -- but let's not get ahead of ourselves. There are a few teams in the west that will have something to say about our repeat championship.

Miami just doesn't have (or at least they didn't on Saturday night) a "money" hitter. Kelly Lamberti had a HUGE night with 18 kills while hitting .485 . Hitting .354 as a team -- I'll take that any day of the week. 13.5 blocks to only 5 for Miami -- defense shut down the Red Hawks.

I'm just bummed the team will be on the road four of the next five weekends..., including a killer weekend at Western and Northern.  I have confidence in this team though...

LET'S GO CATS!!

Got to agree Radar ...that NIU/Western Weekend is a back breaker and both of those teams have relaoaded and are on the rise. Kent/EMU travel wise is a back breaker but EMU continues to neglect their athletics so it should be a welcome match after a tough Kent test.

My pops officiated volleyball over 30 years. He used the cards very effectively but I think he would have appreciated how they were used last night. I remember last year watching the Miami coach and thinking "man, pops and her would have been into it " for some of her histrionics and the way she treats officials with her snide rmarks and yelling at the down official while the ball is still in play.

More thoughts on the 2nd red card event.   As I remember seeing it from down in the 2nd row, Ohio had a monster block which smashed the Miami libero in the face, and knocked her to the floor.  In the process her hair bands got all messed up and she then fiddled with them "for an extended period of time".  Actually think she was trying to get herself composed so she could resume play.  As a result, the ref popped up the red one.

You are correct Grandad.

She eventually threw the hairband to the coach, I had noticed that during the warm ups and Ohio player introductions that she was somewhat of a clown laughing and cheesing when it did not seem appropriate. THe fact that she kept doing that while the up ref was talking to her and called her over probably did not help. I rarely smile or make jokes when the nice State Trooper is talking to me.
