Take out Pitt 3-2. Fought off 4 set points in Game 4 to force a 21-19 win in Game 5.

Wow, what a comeback. I saw they were down four set points in the fourth set already down 2-1 and wrote them off.

There is one word to describe such a performance:  HEART.

For as young as this team is, that comeback says a lot about their make-up.

WAY TO GO, CATS!!

And fought off 2 set points in game 5 when it was 14-12. Fought off 9 match points in all in the last 2 sets. Gut wrenching!

Must have been especially  sweet for our Pitt native setter, Leah, and a nice ride back home for the team.

This thread seems to have a more positive outlook than some of those expressed in "Concerned" which is also currently being followed.

It definitely was exciting to be at Pitt last night.  Yes - there was a lot of HEART.  However, as I commented to Ryan after the match, its really a shame we get ourselves into those situations, but super exciting to see how they can rally together and come back.

If you look closely at whats been happening, here are some interesting observations:

1.  Serving seems to be much better than last year in general - not as many errors overall.

2.  Other teams have become aware of our blocking potential, and now often "dink" the ball high over the blocker's jump, causing it to land in that "hole" around the ten foot line.  Need to find a way to remedy this.

3.  While they have played just 10 opponents, there has already been a total of 43 sets.  That's a lot more playing  experience for everyone than just 10 quick matches.

4.  We have quite a few players with the ability to make some powerful kills, just like when Ellen was smashing the ball.

I personally think we're in for a very exciting ride !!

GrandDad it is great to see your comments.....

I believe the situations are going to get fewer and far between. This team is SO young at almost all positions. I agree with your comment on the serving. It has been pretty outstanding this year. I think we use the short serve a little too much, but thats just my opinion. The "dinking" of the ball over our blockers is a problem that I think will also get remedied in time. We have one outside just starting to play all 6 rotations, and really if you think about it, 2 "new" setters that have to cover these "dinks". I also agree totally at having more "bombers" now. If everyone stays healthy this is really going to be fun. One area you did not mention was the back row. I think the back row defense has become more stable. Passing is getting better every match with the players back there getting used to each others nuances. The digging, to me again, has been outstanding. Still missing a few but I feel for the same reason as just stated.

This is a great bunch of girls that will go far. That I TRULY believe.
