As usual I love the aggressive non-conference scheduling.

Indeed.  Our first home event is no slouch either.

Interesting that we appear to be hosting two non-conference tournaments a week apart -- not sure we've ever done that before.

Two-thirds of the OOC qualified for the NCAAs.  National runners-up included.  Four top 25 teams (and three top 15) in the first two weeks.  All of that plus a conference that placed four teams in last year's tournament (more than all but the Big Ten, Big 12, and Pac-12).  Is it Fall yet?!

Go big or go home!  Great prep for the MAC regular (and post-season) season ... Go Bobcats!  I agree re: the home schedule, eg. Kentucky, Oregon, etc.  There will be no shortage of outstanding volleyball at the Convo later this year.  Not to mention Dayton, Ilinois and Pepperdine just up the road to start the year.

VB is such a great sport and that is such an excellent sched.  What's the attendance record at this point?

I know that I'm deaming but I don't see why we shouldn't have 5-7k for a few of those homers.  When do students return?

Frankly, Monroe, this is a community event. Students, for the most part, are a no show. If they would start supporting this team, they good really draw large crowds. Wish the athletic media would make a big effort to get the students in the house.

Re: attendance, though there is ample room for improvement the numbers suggest OU ranks in the top 30 of all schools in the country.  Certainly, the fans that do show up make lots of noise and the OU Alumni band is second to NONE!  Great atmosphere and more students would enhance the home match experience even more.  Go Bobcats!

I really worked hard when I was O Zone president to grow student attendance. And I was fairly successful in doing that, in no small part because Carlston wanted a big student presence. Theis has been more interested in reaching out to the community and the student attendance has dropped to almost nothing. It's a shame. I don't what happened because the momentum was positive.

As a follow-up to the student support issue, the Louisville match had a really nice student turnour last year and the match was very competitive/exciting.  For whatever reason, the student numbers really dropped off after that match (it was part of an invitational).  With Kentucky and Oregon on the home schedule this season (and both nationally ranked) it would seem the interest level should be high ... not to the mention the prospect for a very, very good team again this year.  There is also a chance the Olympic team's successes could translate to better student attendance, eg. TV viewership, etc.  Time will tell.  The MAC is tough (4 NCAA teams last year) so quality volleyball all the way around.  Go Bobcats!

JSF, student support was definitely better in the past as you say. I agree that the limited number of student s is too bad, because not only could OHIO really draw big if both community and students were present, but students bring a different level and type of enthusiasm that's fun to have in the house.
