Ryan is bringing another outstanding class for 2013. These are their "bios" from the Sophomore 79 List.

Mallory Salis, 5-9 OH, Marist (Chicago, Illinois) – Easily one of the top sophomores in the Chicago area, Salis led Marist to a best-ever 39-3 record and a supersectional berth opposite eventual Class 4A state champion Lyons. She finished the year with 232 kills, 60 aces, 49 blocks and 299 digs. “She starts on a team that plays a statewide and national schedule,” said head coach Natalie Holder. “That makes a difference when comparing her to other athletes, regardless of age. She earned her statistics against the very best players in the state and the nation. She is the total package. She makes a consistent impact for six rotations. We had a loaded team with a plethora of skilled athletes, and she was probably the most underrated because she was always surrounded by them on the court.”

Katie Horton, 6-1 OH, Wayne Memorial (Wayne, Michigan) – Once an elite soccer player, Horton has unlimited potential in volleyball as a pure natural athlete. She helped Wayne to some good wins in 2010 and could evolve into a top recruit in the Class of 2013.

Ali Lake, 6-0 MB, Lakota East (Liberty Township, Ohio) – A go-to hitter for the 12-7 Thunderhawks in 2010, Lake averaged almost two kills per set while also contributing with her blocking and serving.

Lake also had offers from James Madison, High Point, Xavier and NC State, and also had interest from North Carolina, Tennessee and Marquette.

“Ali is a tremendous athlete with the dedication level that is unparallelled to her peers,” East coach Casie Garland said. “Her work ethic and commitment will help her transition to the collegiate level and make an impact right away. She likes to win and she will do whatever it takes to make that happen. I am very excited for her and her family, and can’t wait to see her succeed at Ohio University.”

Lake, a 6-foot-1 middle hitter, ranked No. 26 in the Greater Miami Conference in kills this past season with 123.

Lake is now the third D-I recruit for the Thunderhawks, joining junior Hannah Sigala (Morehead State) and sophomore Ashley Evans (Purdue).

Mallory picks up additional honors,  as she's named to the Chicago Sun Times all-area first team, and is the East Suburban Catholic Conference Player of the Year and Southtown Star Player of the Year.   Said the Star...

"Salis’ reputation as a strong, silent leader already had been established in the volleyball community. In a seasonlong poll among volleyball players asking which player from another team they’d like to have as a teammate, Salis was an overwhelming favorite."
