OHIO (15-3, 5-1), hosts 2 Western division schools  having a solid start:

Toledo,11-9 overall, has been a surprise so far. Picked last in the Mac West,  they are  4-2 with wins over NIU & WMU.

Ball State is 1st in the West, 17-4 overall, 5-1 in the Mac, with 14 wins in their last 15 games. Their record is as strong as ours but they  haven't had the tough schedule we had. The 1st RPI  out has them at 58 and we're at 42. That's surprises me as polls have us in the 20's.

Should be good matches to come to. Friday and Saturday at 7.

After splitting first two sets, OHIO BOBCATS turned it up mid-game of the third set and took the match, 3-1.  Watched the last half of the match on video (no sound) and it seemed to be a solid, workmanlike performance.

Something seems a little off with the ladies, we shouldn't be losing sets to all the lower level MAC teams.

I thought the game tonight was quite exciting and I give Ball State all the credit for beating us after being destroyed in that 4th set.

I'm guessing that as the season rolls on, other coaches are figuring us out. Looks to be getting out coached to me, just based on results. I don't really think those other teams have as good players as us.

Have you guys been to a game this year?  Let's see, we're missing one first team all MAC player from last year due to injury and lost the reigning MAC player of the year to injury tonight.  Think that might have something to do with other teams "figuring us out."

Amen, Swank. When Chelsea first went down, the Cats had to adjust to a new line-up. Liis has really stepped it up and has been playing well.  Then Kelly goes down in the third set tonight. Not something you can adjust to easily on the fly.  I will give big props to Mallory and Meredith -- they both were awesome tonight.

Ball State is VERY good and well coached. They played nearly as flawless a first set tonight as I have seen. I fully expect to see them playing on Sunday at the MAC tournament.

The Cats played hard tonight -- a couple of breaks just didn't go their way,

There is no team in the MAC that has had as big a target on its back over the last 10 years as Ohio. We are getting the best, and bringing out the best , in our opponents.

On a side note, it was great to see Lexie's grandfather at the game tonight. Had a nice talk about Lexie, who is working in Paris, and Katie Post, who is playing volleyball in Amsterdam.  Great to see you again, GrandDad!

Spot on, Al and Radar.  Coupled with a few questionable calls at crucial times during the match, I would say that BSU escaped with the win.  The Cardinals are a good team, granted, but the Cats set wins were by wide and dominate margins.

I agree with the last 3 commenters. Losing your 2 All-MAC outside hitters is brutal.

The MAC is not the conference it was when Carlston was here or in the early years of Theis. Nobody could play with us back then. Today, Akron may be the only real weak team left. Fortunately, we are a deep team and Ryan will have some options as to how he thinks OHIO can best re-group. OHIO is not out of this by any means. Even with the loss of Kelly in set 3, we blew them out in set 4 and 5th sets are always a crapshoot, usually won by the team that gets a little run.

Next week will be telling as we play 2 Western division teams on the road.

I was not aware that Kelly went down in the 3rd set, but do know that Chelsea has been out since around the Oregon game. I was watching the game against Ball State and the Ole Miss-LSU football game at the same time and must have missed the injury thinking it was a timeout.

Still doesn't explain the 25-21 loss in the 3rd set to Eastern Michigan after winning the second set 25-7, so I stand by my previous statement.

If you've ever played or coached volleyball, you'd know that it is a sport with unbelievable runs and swings.  To put it in football terms, it's like a game of 5 quarters.  There have been many times when a team has won the game but had a disastrous quarter (turnovers, punt/kick returns, etc.).  The same applies to volleyball.  The victor is determined by the team that wins the most quarters.
