One of the axioms of college athletics is that a good AD always has a list of 3 replacements in his desk drawer that he or she will immediately seek out should a head coaching position open up. It was apparent (to me, anyway) from Schaus' and Webb's remarks today that Webb was a target for us from the moment Ryan said his goodbyes.
I don't think Schaus could have been any more enthusiastic in his introduction of Webb this afternoon. I hope Arkley or someone will delve into this, but Webb might have been the top choice from the get-go.
After reading about and hearing from Webb, I'll be surprised if recruiting doesn't go up a notch higher than Ryan took it the last couple years--which brought us 2 MAC Players of the Year.
I wonder what new resources he'll have to take this program to "the next level." Ryan talked about resources in his Marquette news conference, saying he and his new team will be taking plane rides, not bus rides.
The reason he'll be taking plane rides is because of the geographic spread of his conference. Clearly an irrelevant comment.
