Looks like Julie punts. Makes assistant interim coach instead of conducting a search now. Like rpbobcat says, got to polish up those NCAA credentials, no time to mind the store on the home front.

I know he did a lot for this program in his first stint in Athens, but I always felt he came back here in large part to continue accruing years into the state retirement system. Choosing to leave at this late date really sucks.

Not too clued into volleyball, but Volleytalk seemingly has a OU parent saying the players are the reason, and was going to be let go if he didn't retire.

Looked it up, and Carlston was hired in July of 2021. That seems like bad timing as well. What's with this program?

Doesn't feel like there's time to do a full search in May?

Looks like the account that posted that just signed up to make said accusation, and is getting lit up like a Christmas tree for likely being a disgruntled helicopter parent.

I’d buy the PERS argument, though.

Have to disagree with our logic, or lack thereof, here. Any program needs a Head Coach when in transition. Cromer has been our AD almost 6 years. If she wanted to bail, she could have by now.

Yeah that’s what Tom Boeh and Jim Schaus thought too. If anyone thinks their tenures were so long out of their love for Athens is delusional.

Do you really think every AD/coach/staff of Ohio wants to work in the MAC/live in one place forever? It’s not 1965. If you think everyone wants to stay in Athens forever, you’re delusional.

Boeh was 95-05, Schaus 08-19, Cromer 19-present. What more do you want? That’s not job hopping. That’s not just using Ohio as a stepping stone. If a coach or AD gets a better job, that means they were successful here. It’s where we are on the food chain. Want to change that? Raise some cash.

It hurts me as well when coaches leave. Selfishly I want the good ones in Athens forever. But I don’t see how you can be critical of an 11 year tenure as “wanting out.”

No, I don’t, but as you probably know, they spent lots more time here then they thought they would. That’s just fact. And not sure why you think I have the attitude, they came, they put a lot of time in. The fact, I’m stating it’s more time then they thought they would be here is a bad thing? To borrow your own words “do you really think 11-12 years was on the timetable for Schaus or Boeh? Schaus and Boeh applied for jobs every year. Good for them, it’s a free market.

And being honest isn’t critical. Here for 11 year, good job, applying every year is wanting out. Again, neither Boeh nor Schaus stayed that long because they wanted to.

Don't know about Boeh, but Schaus supposedly was here because it was as close to his parents as he could get. They reportedly lived in Morgantown at that time. Perhaps, he was applying to jobs a Fairmont State, Wheeling Jesuit and West Virginia Wesleyan to get a little closer?

Or perhaps you don’t fully know the actual situation. But ok. I actually heard he turned the Fairmont job down because a lack of free shuttle service for him and his wifeb.

Well, you do have more bugs planted in the Round House on Richland than I do, so maybe I don't know the inside story. The information I have was all on the public record at the time. But, I could understand not wanting to go to a school without a good shuttle service, after the embarrassment at that NIU bowl game. Oh, the shame of it! ;-)

Punted? I hardly think so. The spring season just finished just like football finished their spring season. Can you imagine conducting a football head coaching search at this time of year. Last I heard, volleyball and football are played in the fall.

Agree BTC. If she was wanted, she would be out of town in a New York minute.

Schaus tried to get the Purdue, Bearcat and WVU jobs. He wasn't successful, so eventually he headed south to lead the Southern Conference.

When Solich retired, you thought that Cromer should have named Albin interim and then conducted a search if needed, right?

When she didn't follow that approach, you wanted her fired. Now she has followed that approach, and you think it somehow means she's ignoring her job.

Got it. Seems like your feelings on Cromer are super rational.

Good. Why so many people want unambitious people to come work at Ohio University is beyond me. An AD who thinks Ohio is the pinnacle of the profession is a dumb AD.

Kam Hunt transferred to Dayton. I’m guessing there will be more roster turnover with Carlston retiring.

Oh, there's a point to this conversation? Cause it seems like OCF and 1996 repeating the same boring nonsense about Cromer for the 70th time each.

I disagree with 1996 on almost every point that he or she makes. However, as I mentioned in some thread fairly recently, I have a source that is in a position to know that confirmed what 1996 said about the environment in the AD's office is essentially correct. My source, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the employees in Cromer's office find her elusive and somewhat narcissistic. Prior to this discussion I had sensed some of this from a distance, without any real evidence. Sometimes intuition turns out to be correct.

Cool, man. Glad you're investigating her, for some reason.

But also that has nothing to do with this thread, or the things you said in it.

OCF is correct in his above statements about the AD.
