WOUB article about the home match vs Central Michigan said the crowd of 1,017 paid was an all time record. But I seem to remember crowds of 2,000 in the past. Someone correct me on this.

Yeah that's definitely a suspicious report. Didn't we average way more than that during carlstons best years?

I want to say we had crowds of 3k+ during the prime years and were Top 25 in attendance at least one season.

I asked myself the same question as I was at the game and Lou announced it over the PA. It was a nice crowd, but I assumed they would of had more during those dominate years.

Maybe something around "paid" attendance? All us dads in town for Dad's Weekend shelled out the $10 for a seat and the prior games > 1000 were free tickets? IDK.

The prime years a Saturday night crowd would be 1,500 minimum, and normally 2K+. I want to say we hit 4K once or twice on Homecoming following the football game.

It was not a record crowd for attendance. The record was more than 3000 and was set with the aid of the post-game crowd from football as stated. We were in the top 25 for attendance in NCAA D-1 that year and the lower bowl for the record setting game was full. Hopefully, we can get back to those days! It was a great atmosphere. Recently the parents of a former player happened to be in Athens and watched a game. They couldn't believe we no longer had a band for the games and remarked how dead the atmosphere was compared to 10 or so years ago.

Now we get just 350 on a Friday night.

No band? Lame.

WOUB was quoting a story on the departments website. That's the source of the error. I just did a quick check and in 2007 we had more than that for the Akron match and the Miami match and the BG match (3689).

Is the clarification in the phrase "paid attendence"? Don't recall an admission fee back then but I was on the floor in a non-paying capacity though.
