The first round of this chant was pretty good last night (considering the relatively soft turnout). I Really like this new tradition, and Really appreciate the Ozoners who bring the signs for the crowd prompts.

The second attempt at prior discussed beginning of 3rd Qtr start as good idea fizzled - but this was due to bad timing. The 3rd Qtr chant Has to be AFTER the 3rd Qtr actually starts, Not during the in between Qtrs break. Too much other stuff going on then - 110 will play something, random PA announcements, and likeley some inept boot shooting against the wind into some basket, or couple dudes floundering around trying to jump skip in sleeping bags in the endzone going on.

The 3rd Qtr chant should start right as the Opposing team begins their 1st possession of the Qtr - so is Loud while they are in huddle, at the line before the snap, etc.

That sound good?

What about starting it when we are on defense for the first time in both halves?

I don't know about waiting to do it until the second half.  We still have a ton of students leaving after the band plays and would be squandering a good bit of noise by not getting them involved too.

But then again, the student section was louder in the second half than the first, so this may be a moot point.

I saw you guys trying to get this started in the first half, but it just didn't get off the ground. The second half was good. I hope this is tried during basketball season.

NOT during the action though. Only during timeouts.

Yes. About 2:00 to go before game start, and H2 start?

Why can't you do this during the game, exactly?

1. Because they tried it during the action and it didn't work.

2. Non-Ozoners are trying to watch the game, not keep up with a cheer.

They can try it during the action if they want, I just don't see it catching on then. Better during the breaks.

Don't want chants when we have the ball - this is a "get pumped up" type chant, not an in play type cheer.

Why not in play?  If the boys get on a run like we did against Akron last year, the Convo is rocking with a unified crowd.  OU!  OH YEAH!  OU!  OH YEAH!  The players feed off of the crowd; if we could pull it off at the right time, it would be effective.

No chants when we have the ball, or just this one?

I know that in football, they don't want us doing chants when our guys are on offense.  In the past it wasn't a problem during basketball.  Hopefully it doesn't change.

I saw the group trying to get it going, and I could see that it just didn't feel right during game action. This sort of chant needs a little time to get grow louder and louder, and it can easily be interrupted by reaction to a basket, steal, block, etc. It's probably most effective coming out of some sort of timeout.

Or going into one (if it's uninterrupted by music/tricycle races)

The problem you'll have to solve is that there is NEVER ANY SILENCE during timeouts. There's always some noise going on. The best time to do it is probably our of bounds or travels or something.

Here's an issue that needs addressed - you don't start a loud crowd chant WHEN WE HAVE THE BALL! Happened couple times tonight. Jeesh - Reverse the home field advantage???????

Hey guys! O Zone president back again. The current plan for OU Oh Yeah was this:
1. Do it a lot the first game (Idaho) so freshman on our side can figure out how it works.
2. Do it once or twice at the Parents Weekend game since a HUGE number of people leave at halftime, don't want to half-ass something this great.
3. From here on out - Doing it at the first opponent possession of either half, plus any crucial scenarios (Defensive stand in the red zone, ninety yard TD, etc.)

For basketball, the plan will probably be similar to the end of last year where it is used early, and then if there is a crucial possession at the end of the game. EDIT: It did work effectively twice when the other team took a TO when we were on a run. If we do it while coming out of the timeout, we should still see similar success.

I don't have a problem doing it when we have the ball in either sport, because after talking to some of the players of both, they really get fired up when we do it while we have possession.

Any thoughts, comments, or feedback is greatly appreciated!
