you should have seen the sorority girl who brought a MIAMI shirt to the O-zone in basketball.  Or the girl who had the Ohio State shirt at football.  Yeah, the fallout was a thing of beauty.
When was this incident? I think it was my senior year (09-10) I gave some sorority girl the business from two sections away (i was at center court) for wearing m*a^& in the OZone. That was the act I found the most offensive.

I'm pretty sure that was it actually.  It was my freshman year (09-10).

I just made a Facebook event for the meeting. Please share it with as many students you know that may be interested in attending. The O-Zone leaders of the past that are still in Athens would also be a great influence. (I saw that you had expressed interest early shabamon, JSF (?))

If I remember correctly, they were heckled by more than one person who was front and center court.

I'm not in Athens anymore, so any input I have would be on this board, if anyone wants it.

I felt the meeting was productive. A lot of good ideas were exchanged.

Most importantly, I think we are now in a position to be more successful moving forward. Now we just have to execute.

I unfortunately was unable to go as I had to do study and meet with my group. Why was discussed during the meeting and how many people showed up?

Also, I really want to get a bus together and to go to Miami, Kent State, BGSU, Akron, and Toledo.

Lot of respect to The Situation for putting this meeting together and keeping the conversation focused. He's a real 'get shit done' kind of guy. One thing I'd like to add is that I'm of the belief that the O Zone should be doing some sort of chant on every possession, offense or defense, even if it's some generic recycled cheerleader chant. It really is now on you guys to come to the game rowdy and execute.

By the way, if you'd like some reading on Dan Lowe:

It's sad that you all needed a meeting for the Ozone... I mean honestly you are a student section. If you show up and cheer the others will follow. The thing is that you are relying on 3 or 4 people to start the chants. The band is a better student section than you guys. I don't even stand in the student section anymore, and advise my friends to find better seats. It is sad when you don't even have an impact on the game.

Since your screenname is Rufus1804, I assume you're a somewhat passionate Ohio fan. You also suggest that you're a student. You know, you could do something to help the cause. Just a thought.

You sir, are part of the problem. Blaming others with no solutions. Stand up, be heard, lead the cheers if you are not happy. Don't stand off to the side and be that guy (or girl).

Actually, the opposite was true.  We had a lot of very diehard fans showing up starting chants with their little sections following them...  A lot of people are showing up ready to cheer, but we had 9 or 10 groups of 3 or 4 people trying to lead it with no unity between them.
Too many people think the O Zone is all about the 3 or 4 people in front leading it.  Anyone in the O Zone can start a chant.  The O Zone is stronger when the whole thing is willing to step up.

I'm happy with where the O Zone is headed.  We followed through on the meeting at the last home game.  Unfortunately that home game was the weakest game of the season as far as the general student goes.  We need to follow through on what was discussed at the meeting after break and we will be in good shape.

I am very optimistic about the O Zone's future.

Are you kidding me bro? This post is all kinds of wrong. This is your solution to the problem? Just go cheer, no boundary conditions? If I sit in the heart of the Ozone but cheer with uncertainty in my voice, if they can barely hear me, will I be the leader they look to?

This meeting was about putting ourselves in a position to be successful.

If the sustainable solution was just cheer, we wouldn't be in this mess. The truth is there are guys like shabamon who can lead an entire student section by himself with just confidence, enthusiasm, and consistency. But when guys like him graduate and move on and there is no one left to take his place we find ourselves with our current problem.

So this meeting was about putting a system in place to weather the weak years when that leader isn't present.

We could use your help if you're willing to lend a hand. If you'd like to lead a section with your friends we now have a system in place to reserve seats for you right up until tip off. Seriously.

I didn't go to either the NIU game nor the Toledo game and I probably won't be back at The Convo until February 9 against Bowling Green. How has the O Zone been? Are you keeping up with the ideas we talked about in the meeting (100 missed warmup shots, etc.)?

I was reading a thread on the Akron board about student participation at basketball games. It's an interesting discussion if you have the time. Pay close attention around page seven when they start to talk about alienating the casual fan: zipsnation.org/forums//index.php

Unfortunately my schedule this semester has me working in Columbus on Mondays and Wednesdays. And because of a pro-second amendment rally I attended in Columbus this past Saturday, I haven't sat in the student section since the Oakland game.

What is the status of the Akron road game (ie tickets sold to OUr students, buses acquired, etc.)?

I signed up for the Akron trip and so far there's over 70 people signed up I believe.

Had plans set up for basketball this year but Covid stopped them. I’m graduating this semester and it’s unfortunate because I’ve only been here for 3 years and wasn’t able to do enough to help bring the O-Zone back to its glory days. Hopefully students can stand up in the future and change things for the better.
