Hey everyone! I had the idea to start doing these O-Zone recap posts to garner feedback regarding the student section and what I can do improve it.

Just to recap last night: I wasn't able to get a seat in the student section due to the extended amount of student attendance which in my opinion is a great problem to have. I sat in Section 223 and tried to get some "Defense" and "Let's Go Bobcats" chants started but not many wanted to do it / were annoyed with me. I thought the O-Zone was awesome for the first 5 minutes of the game then somewhat fizzled out. I noticed a group of guys stood for 75% of the game.

WT/LT: Still needs alot of work. Band fully in it, only a small amount of students knew the chant.

I wish I could have been down there helping Norm out, I feel like I need to take charge from him and take some of the load off of him.

Overall, the students really showed up tonight and hopefully the trend continues. I think we just need a bit more leadership which I'm very willing to step up. I had the idea to potentially post some "how to" videos on the O-Zone Instagram and potentially branch out into TikTok. I'm also in the process of receiving dirt sheet templates from former leader RPKirtland.

Copied from the bball board:

Although there's much room for improvement, the student turnout and engagement last night was the best since Belmont. I say that from the perspective of the ESPN stream where the sound balance is kinda effed. There was clearly a crowd that wanted to be involved in the game, but just needs to be led.

Chase, if you're willing to take this on as a leader, here are some little things the section should work on:

-The O Zone needs to stand all game. It was so funny watching stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down during live game play. Take a break to sit if you need to during timeouts, but when the ball's in play, stand up and keep encouraging others to do the same.

-Do some kind of organized chanting on at least every other offensive and defensive possession, even if it's the generic stuff. But also look for opportunities to really stick it to the opponent in an organized way > "You can't do that", coach getting upset at the refs "Sit down shut up", "Airball" every time the airball shooter gets a touch the rest of the game.

-Every three pointer or dunk should send the section into delirium. Check out the immediate reaction on Tommy's first three pointer: https://youtu.be/T-LH_DLuu6I?t=298 . That should be the reaction on every three. Go right into that Cameron Crazies "Ohh" thing for the next defensive possession, know what I mean? https://youtu.be/RhSvG06qx-I?t=129

-Tommy hit a three at about the 2:20 mark in the second half to put us up 10. https://youtu.be/T-LH_DLuu6I?t=3730 . I thought that was a huge moment in the game when not only the students, but the entire building should have risen to its feet. There was a big immediate reaction but then it went silent pretty quick and BG calmly made a three on the next possession. That possession really needed to be sustained LOUD noise. In fact, from the moment on, in an under 10 point game, every defensive possession should have had something.

We should have two more wins going into the next home game, a primetime national TV date with the other clear contender in this league. Big opportunity to that we are undoubtedly the best home atmosphere in the conference.

Thanks Shab! I will need to assemble a willing core group for the game against Toledo to have a solid foundation for chants, but seeing how many students wanted to be involved is promising and hopefully we can properly lead them.

That will happen. Don’t let them get to you and press on. Do your thing.

I won't. Hopefully I can get there earlier for the Toledo game. I hate being in the upper bowl, love the courtside experience and you can make more of an impact down there

When they used to have the Women/Men play doubleheaders ('86-'92), our group of 8-10 would get to the student section before the Women's game, just so we could sit in the Front row.

I'll attempt to do that if they have anymore double headers scheduled. I know they scheduled one once this year.
