Probably the single greatest OZone memory that gets referenced every once and a while on BA is the time during a winter 2011 or 2012 mid-week OOC home game where attendance was sparse, don't remember the team we were playing against but it was your standard fair basketball game except there was a group of about a dozen or so Brazilian visitors up in the stands chanting and singing pretty loud like it was a soccer or euro basketball game. I can't remember if it was foreign exchange group or a another kind of group that stopped by Athens for one reason or another.
They were eventually invited down to the student section and it was a pretty great time. It was unique seeing the cultural differences in cheering etiquette. I remember they had a hard time grasping that they had to be quiet while we were making free throws. I'm sure if you dig around the forums here you'll find threads discussing the whole event.
It was during the 11/12 season, second game of the season against Lamar. This game is #1 on my list of games that had absolutely no buzz going in that actually turned out to be really hype. People probably went into the Convo thinking it would be any other early season non-con game against an opponent no one really knows, but it was really a lot of fun. As mentioned, the Brazilian group was awesome, but the game was great too. Lamar was coached by Bob Knight's son, Pat and their roster was full of ath-a-letes. That game saw the best dunk I've ever seen from an Ohio opponent in person. Their little guard Mike James, who recently had a brief stay with the Brooklyn Nets, yammed an alley-oop over Ricardo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PISGoL7UZTk It went to overtime, and we managed to pull it out. Probably one of Stevie Taylor's five best performances at Ohio and it was just his second game. Lamar turned out to be pretty good that year. They won the Southland tournament and lost in the play-in game against Vermont.
