Hey all past O-Zoners! I need a favor - when was the orginal O-Zone officially founded? I want to start making an anniversary post on O-Zone social media when this date occurs from now on. I assumed January 2001 but I'm not totally sure of the exact date.

I'll let others who know much more about this topic give you the definitive word, but I would think you might want to consider the starting date to be not the date of the O-Zone name but dating from the first organized student section. I know that there was a group called the CrazyCats (might have been spelled differently) before the O-Zone, and maybe something before that. Just a thought.

Very good thought! I have heard about CrazyCats and I believe they were created around the 80's into the early 90's?

I don't venture into this forum so I missed this initially but I was at the inaugural founding event of the Ozone. I'm certain it was November 2001 but I am unsure of the exact date. Tim O'Shea was the new coach following the controversial firing of Larry Hunter.

We had to line up at the student entrance for our chance to pick our seat for the season. Dan Lowe and several of his friends were there for many hours, and hundreds of us were there in line for at least an hour before they opened the doors. At that point we rushed down to the student section to claim our seat and once we got it on the books, we went on the court and had pizza and met the coaches. O'Shea did a good job with the mic endearing himself to the students, and coach Rhodes grabbed the mic to share the "winning team losing team" chant they did when he played and urged us to bring it back.

So here is something to make us all feel old - The Ozone is now old enough to legally drink.

CrazyCats started with Nee in January of 1981. It was a project of a couple of students in the Sports Administration program. It was then taken over by students for the 81-82 school year. Think it died after the 1983-1984 year. Toughest part is finding people to move it forward after leaders graduate.

Thanks, guys, I knew someone would remember the details. So it was CrazyCats not KrazyKats? I think the K-version is a little more cool, but I'm of the generation where kats were cool people.

Any specifics, cc-cat, on the Crazy Cats' demise? You mentioned something about new leadership.

this is neat dialog.. Are the "KATS" prior to the Convo . this is intriguing. obviously >68. I have worn my OG Sixth man Club several times to games. I want to learn more, My objective at the moment is too progress students to attend games.. There have to have incentives .unfortunately. Bleed Green Cellis
