Bobcats:

I hope this message finds everyone well, and hopefully warm this winter. The reason for the message is to ask for your help in sending Senior Annie Beecham to the University of Washington Husky Invite this weekend.

To fill you in on the details, Annie ran a school-record 9:32 3k last weekend at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite. Saturday's results and recent workouts suggest that she ready for a huge PR in the 5k. Every year if you want to run a fast indoor 5k, you have to get out to UW and race with the best. Of the 17 NCAA national qualifiers in 2010, 11 of them ran their time at the UW meet. In other words, if you want a chance at qualifying to nationals and running under 16:20, you have to go to Washington. So, yesterday we booked a flight for Annie to make the trip out West to race this Friday night.

Long story short, we all know about the great financial support that Ohio University gives to its track and field team, so needless to say a $1500 trip to chase after a fast time puts a significant dent in the budget. So I'm reaching out to recent alums in the hopes of fundraising to help cover/offset the trip's cost. I realize that many of you are recent grads and money might still be tight, so it's understandable if you don't have money to donate.

If we get 40 people to give $25, that's $1,000. Whether you are only able to give $5 or you wish to give more, anything will help. Also, you will be able to write off any donation on your taxes.

If you are able to help in any way, please send a check to:

Clay Calkins
Ohio Track and Field
Convocation Center
Athens, OH 45701

You can watch Annie's race live Friday night at 10:10 (ET) on FloTrack ---> www.flotrack.com

**Anyone wishing to donate can also donate online by going to: www.ohio.edu/give, Under Gift Designation - select "Other", and specify in the "Other" Box - "Track and Field" as the designated recipient for the donation!

Here's a link to the results - 16:33 and 28th place.  Only 13 seconds off the 16:20 time Bob cited earlier in this thread.

Great Job by Annie!!!  Broke the School record by 27 seconds!!
The top 9 runers beat the NCAA automatic qualifying standard.

91 runners in a 5K race on an indoor track!?  That is insane!!

That is awesome.  Congratulations, Annie.

How do you even find room to run with 91 runners on a track?

Did anyone else get a donor receipt for this that shows a 10 or 20%   "benefit received" offset?  I'm just trying to figure out what I missed.

It's too bad if the money didn't all go for its intended purpose, too.

Bob, I don't believe that is the case. The doc you got in the mail should be for tax purposes, and the total -20% part should be the tax deductible portion.

Annie Beecham set a new school record in the 5,000 meters as Ohio's distance runners continued their strong performances in the indoor season.

At the Alex Wilson Invitational (Last Chance Meet) hosted by Notre Dame University, Ohio runners broke school records in two events and have now set new program-bests in the 5,000, 3,000, mile and DMR events during the 2011 indoor season.

The two-day meet served as one of the designated "last chance" meets in the country, giving student-athletes a final opportunity to qualify for the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend in College Station, Texas.

Beecham, who was coming off a second-place finish in the MAC Championships, finished third in the 5,000 meters, running 16:22.51 and setting a new Ohio school record.

*She ended up only 2.5 seconds from the stated goal of running under 16:20 to qualify for Nationals, and lowered the Ohio record by another 11 seconds.

While 2.5 seconds from qualifying must be heartbreaking, the continual lowering of her PR is phenomenal.  Annie clearly has a ton of heart.  Congratulations to her and the entire Ohio team.
