After watching OHIO split the games at Kent this weekend, hearing some of the conversation going on around me, and doing some research, I have some info to report:

The split moved OHIO one game ahead of Kent.  OHIO is now second in the East with a 9-7 record and Miami leads with 11-7.   Both teams have four games remaining.  Miami faces NI and WM, 3rd and 1st in the West.  OHIO faces BG and Toledo - both at the bottom of the divisions.

Let's pull for victories!!!!  I will try to keep track of the progress and update this report as these young women deserve some recognition for their efforts.

GO BOBCATS !!!!!

Friday  5/6/11   Split the two games with BG today.  Won the first 4-2; had the second 1-0 until a 4 run homer by BG ended the game in the bottom of the 7th.

Saturday 5/7/11  Won 8-0 in five innings.

Sunday 5/8/11   Won 7-0

You can read about all of this on OhioBobcats.com.  That site says that OHIO clinched the East title.  Congratulations Bobcats!

OHIO plays Miami this Wednesday, the 11th, at the Akron Firestone Stadium at 5:00 p.m. in the MAC tournament.   I am looking forward to it. (There is construction across the street and much equipment is sitting in the stadium parking lot.  It will be interesting to see how the parking situation works out.)

MAC Softball Tournament:

The Lady Bobcats defeated Miami today 5-4 in the first round of the MAC Tournament by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th. Thursday at 5:00 they play the winner of tonight's match between NI and CM.

The Thursday at 5:00 game just ended at 10:25 because of more that 3 hours of a rain/lightning delay and an extra 8th inning.  OHIO scored 4 runs in the top and won 4-0.   We sat through 1 and 1/2 hours of the delay and then came home.  I attended my book club, returned home, and caught the 7th and 8th innings on the live blog.   I guess now the sceduled 7:30 game has to be played !!!!!

OHIO plays Friday at 5:00.

Signing off with my updates.  If you want to keep up, then check www.ohiobobcats.com  and the live blog!

Congrats to the Bobcats for making it to semifinals!

Looking at the brackets, I'm surprised that the MAC softball and baseball tournaments are run so differently.

In baseball, the seeds are broken into the following brackets:
1+8, 4+5
2+7, 3+6
where the winner of each double elimination bracket will play for the championship.

The softball bracket takes all 8 teams in a true double elimination tournament format like below.

Good opportunity slips away as the rain holds off long enough to allow all games remaining to be finished.

Western Michigan wins the MAC Title after winning 3 games today, 1 against Central Michigan (9-0), 2 against Ohio (4-3, 7-4).

Man that was depressing to type.

Well, I said I wasn't posting any more on the results, but since this thread is still at the top on this board . . . . and the story wasn't long on the university website here are my feelings:

OHIO was the only undefeated team going into the finals as the Bobcats had soundly beaten top seeded and MAC season champ Western Michigan 8-3 in the semi-finals.  That, of course, is why we had to play WMU twice on the last day.  The Bobcats came up short, 4-3, in the first match-up that day.  Now I know "close only counts in horseshoes", but with just a little turn of events in that first game and the Bobcats would have been champs.

It was exciting to watch the young women play so well.  There was a lot of talent on the field this past weekend.  The worst opponent for all the MAC teams was the weather.  I just hope the Bobcats take away a lot of good memories.  They have worked hard for their sport and don't get the fan support they deserve.

WMU will play Michigan on TV this Friday (I think) in the NCAA tournament.

I noticed that Western Michigan is the only sub .500 team (25-28) in the NCAA field.  Their first opponent, Michigan, is 51-4.

Yes,  and Michigan had four players get 1st team Big Ten honors including "player of the year" and the coach was "coach of the year".   I doubt that any team wants to play Michigan in the first game, but I will tune in to watch friday at 8:00.
