Thursday, May 9, 2013: Alyssa Wolfe makes game-winning grab for Ohio softball in MAC Tournament elimination game vs. Miami and ends up on Sportscenter's Top 10!

Thursday, May 8, 2014: Savannah Jo Dorsey pitches a perfect game to beat #1 seed Ball State! Final out was a fly ball caught by.....you guessed it, WOLFE!

Bobcat softball sure likes playing on Thursdays at the MAC Tournament!

Very good call, Brufus.

But it's sad how little the 'minor' sports mean to folks here.  I put up a similar post about Jeremy Johnson making All-America in wrestling and the silence was deafening.  I think someone even ridiculed the posting here where it could gain a wide audience (instead suggesting I put this under the Olympic Sports thread).  Yeah, making All-America and whaling in the MAC softball tourney doesn't deserve any pub....

If someone cares, they will check the appropriate section. That is the reason there are sections in the first place.

Donuts, I give you credit for being consistent.

It's not a compliment.  People may be interested in a headline achievement such as softball is throwing down.  But, if we don't allow this news on the main (hoops, football threads) most users here won't know about the news if they don't check the Olympic Sports threads.  Your remark seems to carry the thought that you don't want to know about anything other than what you already know and care about.  Not a grand approach to life.

That the mods moved this thread to siberia is another headscratcher to me.  What harm in having the very occasional, very-newsworthy thread like this on the more mainstream threads (hoops, football)?  If these 'off topic' threads were to start jamming up the hoop and foot threads, then I could see moving them.

Instead, we bury news of admirable OHIO activity.

That's not the point at all. The website doesn't default to the football or basketball page. A person visiting, to put it into TV terms, has the opportunity to change the channel to what they want. If they want to catch up on all the basic news and just grab the headlines, I'm pretty sure even bobcatattack administration would agree that OhioBobcats.com is better for that. There are also Facebook pages, Twitter handles and more to follow for those headlines people are craving.

If a person can't take that extra 2-3 seconds to check out the olympic sports/other sports pages, they simply don't care enough anyway. That's fine, because I get plenty of channels on TV I don't stop on.

Again, people have routines.  We all do.  And I think that it's pretty safe to say that on this site hoops and football are very commonly viewed.  I'd guess that something like 20% of folks look at volleyball.  The other threads probably get very, very few view.  People have routines.  They don't change.  So, no one is coming to this thread to find out about the softball team's great triumph.  So, one thread about it in the football or hoop threads seems fair.

Another way to view it:  What harm would it do to have an 'off-topic' thread in the hoop and/or foot threads about a half dozen times a year when something really newsworthy happens in another sport?

Maybe people don't care.  Or maybe they are stuck in their routines.  Either way, why isn't this MAC title news the headline when one opens this website?  I'd bet that a very high % of BOBCAT fans who visit this website would love the softball news.

[This is supposed to be a citation of a very nice Dispatch article from Friday's paper but Firefox doesn't want to cooperate obviously and I hesitate to just plop the text in here, even if its attributed.]

Suffice it to say that it's highly complimentary of Ms. Dorsey and her teammates, a number of whom have Columbus area backgrounds.

Perhaps Ryan can rescue a link to the article.  It would be appropriate reading for the BA front page.

The 'Cats put up a game fight in a tough setting.  UK ends up heading to the Super Regional.  The 'Cats' bats just went cold.  (yes, a little smile there.)

I listened to a little of the Friday night radio broadcast and Russ did a great job even though I 'm guessing he doesn't have a long history of softball play by play experience.

Dorsey's younger sister Michaela, signed to play for Ohio, was recently named a Dispatch Central Ohio high school athlete of the week. The senior shortstop batted .600 (9 for 15) for the week. She went 3 for 4 with two home runs and a double in a victory over the district's big school top seed, Marysville. She also had two doubles and three hits in a win over Westland and two hits in a win over DeSales.
