It's hard to believe it's that time already but the Ohio softball team opened its season this weekend by going 4-1 in Georgia, beating Eastern Illinois, Morehead State, Kennesaw State and Eastern Illinois again. Loss was 6-3 to Chattanooga.

Morgan Geno had quite an opening weekend, going 9 for 16 with a home run, double and 7 RBIs. Allie Englant was 11 for 20 and scored 6 runs. The team hit .318 as a whole and scored 29 runs. Freshman Mackensie Kohl was the top pitcher, going 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in 20 2/3 innings. Madi McCrady had some control issues and had a 4.32 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. A couple other pitchers also walked a lot of batters and struggled in a combined 2 innings.

Ohio hit a MAC-record seven home runs in the 17-6 win. Morgan Geno is up to 10 home runs and 39 RBIs (second in the nation) on the year already. Bobcats went 3-1 this week. Beat Northern Kentucky 3-1 with Morgan Geno hitting a 2-run home run in the 6th and McCrady giving up 0 ER. Beat Northern Illinois 11-3 with Geno hitting another home run and Brunswick also homering with 6 RBIs. Lost 5-4, giving up a 4-0 lead. Brunswick had 3 more RBIs. Won 8-4. Geno hit 2 more home runs, 4 RBIs.

Geno has 15 home runs, 53 RBIs and is hitting .385. She's slugging .843 with a .508 on-base percentage. She has nearly twice as many RBIs as the second-place person in the MAC (28). She seems on her way to MAC player of the year, if she can hold off her own teammate, Yun, who is hitting .427, slugging .771, has 11 home runs and leads the MAC with 33 runs scored.

Bobcats got the sweep of Buffalo at D'Youville College (yes, that's really a place and they played there) and moved all the way up to the No. 3 seed. Bobcats take on No. 6 Ball State in the first round in the final game Wednesday, scheduled for about 6 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

The Bobcats will play either Miami or Toledo for the MAC championship at 1 p.m. Saturday. Whoever it is will have to beat Ohio twice. It's Ohio's fourth straight appearance in the MAC Championship game.

Tough day. Bobcats had the ideal setup, getting No. 7 Toledo and getting two chances to beat them. Couldn't get it done. Lost 6-5, giving up 3 runs in the 6th after leading throughout. Lost 9-2 in the second game. Led 1-0 for a good while but it blew up on them after that. Finish the season 34-21.
