Softball Bobcats off to a great start, 4-0 with wins against Uconn, Elon, UNC Greensboro & NC Central. They scored 52 runs in the 4 games. Ace Skipp Miller struggled, hopefully that was just an aberration.

Ohio is the preseason favorite to win the MAC.

After going 1-4 against some pretty good competition two weekends ago, the Bobcats won all four games this past weekend. Three of them were shutouts. The last was a 15-2 blowout. There area few good teams but no really challenging opponents on the rest of the nonleague schedule. Hopefully they'll keep it rolling.

Ohio Softball had a very successful weekend, winning all 4 games at GMU!

Ohio 9, GMU 0
Ohio 3, Longwood 1
Ohio 1, Longwood 0
Ohio 2, GMU 1

Ohio is now 16-6 on the season!

With Saturday's double header canceled because of expected bad weather, Ohio is 17-7 with just a midweek game against Marshall ahead of MAC play. Pretty good. A 4-3 loss in the second game Thursday ended an 8-game winning streak.

As it stands from nonconference play, Ohio is among the top teams in the MAC offensively behind Miami (which has displayed the most power by far) and Ball State. Ohio is second in ERA, just behind Ball State. Those two teams are well ahead of the rest of the league.

Ball State is the only other team in the MAC above .500 at 14-6. The Cardinals were projected fourth in the preseason poll and seems to have benefitted from a less than difficult schedule so far. RPI right now has Ohio at 93, Miami at 132, Akron at 133, Kent State at 147 and then Ball State at 148. Ohio will open next weekend with a pretty bad Buffalo team (3-16, RPI 225).

Ladies are 8-2 in conference and 25-10 overall. Stupid Miami is 13-1. Big series with them next weekend in Athens.

Miami had some struggles recently, so going into the series, Miami is 15-4, Ohio is 11-4, Central Michigan is 12-5 and Ball State is 11-5. Ohio plays Central Michigan and Ball State after Miami (Ohio State too). Ohio is the top pitching team in the MAC but is closer to the middle of the league in offensive stats.

Ohio's pitching won out over Miami's offense. Bobcats (14-4 MAC) won 2-0 and 3-1 on Friday and today was a pitchers' duel for a while, Bobcats went up 5-0, fell behind 6-5 and then walked it off in the bottom of the 7th 7-6. Ohio State comes to Athens on Tuesday and then a huge series at Central Michigan (14-5 MAC) next Friday and Saturday. Ball State (14-5) doubleheader in Athens the following Tuesday.

What an awesome sweep of Fiami. Hope they get a good crowd against OSU tomorrow. OSU is in the same spot as us this year - Very bad baseball and very good softball.

Trio of pitchers (Miller, Wise & Lieving) - 1 Junior, 1 Sophomore, & 1 Freshman - Impressive depth.

Also I love how the entire lineup & pitching staff is from Ohio, WV or Western PA.

Ohio (16-5) took two of three against second-place Central Michigan (16-7) to maintain the MAC lead. Big doubleheader Tuesday against Ball State (14-7) and then a trip this weekend to Western Michigan (7-15) to end the regular season. Miami (15-7) is still in the mix for the regular season title.

Skipp Miller throws a no-hitter to win game one but Bobcats drop game 2 for the split. The irony is Skipp came into a tie game for the last 2 innings and they tagged her for 4 hits and the loss. Go figure.

Take care of business against WMU and they will be regular season champs. Drop 1 game and it gets complicated. Drop 2 and it gets tough.

Ohio lost two of three to a Western Michigan team that is near the bottom of the MAC standings and finished as regular season runner-up to Miami. Would have needed the sweep to finish first as Miami swept its series. The positive is the Bobcats held on to second and a bye in the tournament. The Bobcats will play the winner between #3 Central Michigan and #6 Northern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Firestone Stadium in Akron.

Smooth sailing 7-0 win over NIU.

Miami wins 6-3. Sets up a winner's bracket final today at Noon.

Winner puts themselves 1 win away from the championship. Loser has to go win the losers bracket then beat the other twice.

In other words, today's game is the big one. Let's go Bobcats.

Everything has worked best-case so far. Bats are working. Got Skipp to Saturday with only 14 innings pitched.

What an absolute gut punch. Miami wins for the 4th consecutive year. Barf. So much barf.

The older of my two younger sisters used to have an expression that would be appropriate here, "It's enough to make you barf up your toenails!"
