The General Assembly was set to pass the name, image & likeness bill, possibly unanimously. Then the House -- mostly along party lines -- added a ban on transgender athletes in women's sports. The Senate has rejected the House amendment but added the NIL language to a sports betting bill. DeWine says the government should stay out of the transgender issue, leaving it up to leagues. So it's unclear what will happen to it. Somebody always has to muck up the works.

And the Governor is correct, this is an issue the Governorning bodies should deal with.

I read this morning that there are 5 transgender athletes in the state of Ohio.

Good to see politicians prioritizing the most pressing issues.

I'll bet at least one is in the Arcanum area and at least one is in the Paris Township area. That's where the two sponsors of the House amendment are from.

If this gets passed by June 30 it will be for one reason and one reason only - the power of tO$U.

I bet that this is just typical right wing culture war BS and isn't actually addressing a real issue.

So two girls in Connecticut require a law in Ohio?

As I said, there are 5 transgender athletes in Ohio. That this is priority number one for anybody is solely a result of culture war BS. It's simply not a wide ranging issue.

This debate will likely be in the news quite a bit in the coming weeks/months with a transgender weight-lifter competing for New Zealand in the Olympics this summer.

They also ruled US runner Ce Ce Telfer ineligible.

He ran for D II track for Franklin Pierce for 3 years.

Then he transitioned and she won the NCAA 400 meter hurdles in 2019.

Waiting for the lawsuit challenging DeWine's authority to do this......

UPDATE: Apparently NIL language, without the transgender BS, was included in the budget bill that was passed last night. DeWine is expected to sign the bill with the NIL language included.
