According to The Post he defeated long time incumbent Chris Fahl in the Fourth Ward primary.

He's running unopposed, so, as The Post says, he'll be sworn in January.

This has to be the most rigged election EVER. I understand there is already a call for an audit and an audit of the audit. So many FAKE ballots. This makes the BIG LIE look like a little fib. Time to storm BW3 and take back the election.

Congrats Sir!!!

Way to go, Alan! A voice of reason and foresightedness should be welcome on the council.

Congrats Alan. So, when are we breaking ground on Athens' most pressing and urgent need.... an 18 hole municipal golf course?

Aren't these congratulations a little premature? If anyone can lose an election unopposed it has to be . . . oh, never mind. Congrats Allan.

Alan, level with us: did your (incumbent) opponent really not know they had to stand in a primary election?

Congratulations, Alan. I know you will be a voice of reason on City Council, just the way your were when we both served on the old GWC Board. The woman you beat was nasty and mean-spirited. People in my family have had personal dealings with her. You did a great public service in removing her from office. The whopping margin of your victory indicates that others probably felt that way too.

That's a good one because it's not the first time I've heard that this week. It is truly hard to believe that a college town our size doesn't have an 18 hole golf course. We talk about attracting tourists. It's amazing how many men and women drive out of the county on a daily basis to play golf on an 18 hole track taking their money with them.

Anyway, I digress. Thanks for the well wishes. It was a real team effort with a group of folks from many political perspectives chipping in with advice, guidance, and monetary support. On to November.

Having served on golf site committees, I have found the actual cost of building a course is not that great if you find an area with the right drainage, etc. How about a joint city and OU effort in The Ridges. It could include walking trails, botany sites and engineering students could help in the planning, etc. Finding an architect is a big step and there are many semi-retired ones out there who can be used. And this would also open the current OU course for development. I have been interested in this since there was a call a couple of years ago (during future campus planning) by a few to do away with golf because it is only for the elite. All of us old weekend hackers know that is not true.

There is an elevated spot up on The Ridges that is flat as a table and looking from that spot, you can see four different golf holes right before your eyes. I've dreamed of a course up there for years but golf has such a bad name in this town for some very loud people that I don't think it could ever happen unless the powers that be just tuned them out and promoted the course as a tourist attraction with economic development possibilities.

Your comment about "the elite" is funny but spot on. For years the Elks league played Monday and Tuesday night and the OU league played on Wednesday and Thursday. Taking a look at those two crews, it's hardly the elites that you'll find at a suburban country club like Firestone or Inverness.

She was first appointed in 2009 to fill the seat vacated when Debbie Phillips went to the Ohio House. She had a Republican opponent in the 2009 general election but has had no opposition in the Democratic primaries or general elections since then.
