Trump's campaign manager is going to prison for tax evasion, money laundering, and secretly working as a foreign agent.

And one of Trump's foreign policy advisors pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about meetings with Russians about the campaign. He told the FBI that he met with them before he was involved with the campaign, which turned out to be a lie, and that the people he met with were "nobodies" with "no real influence" which also turned out to be a lie. In fact, that person introduced him to Putin's niece.

But the real mark of a patriot is what they do during the national anthem at a football game.

There may be more to today's headlines than what you might think.  This is a very interesting story that involves much more than the election and any Russian influence on the Trump campaign.  I'm for all the facts coming out, wherever the chips my fall.  I hope everyone on this board agrees with that.  Here's some food for thought.

The attempt by right-wing pundits to smear people who aren't even in office and wield zero power is a pathetic hail mary attempt being engineered by the guilty parties themselves, starting with the top.

Smug? I haven't felt much of anything about this country aside from despair since last fall. This is just the beginning of what is likely to be a long process, and it's hard for me to find much joy in it. That's especially true because so many of my fellow citizens have devolved into conspiracy theorists who respect blowhards like Tucker Carlson more than the many professionals doing actual journalism on this mess.

I am all for an honest reckoning regarding Russian influence in American politics. I suspect it's ugly -- for both parties -- but there's nothing at all to this Uranium One story. It's been made clear that the State Department was one of 9 different departments that had to sign off on the Uranium One deal, and that neither Hilary nor the State Department had the ability to influence the Uranium One deal unilaterally.

I have no doubt that both major parties are dirty and up to their neck in outside money. It's disgusting and should be investigated to the full extent of the law.

But posting a story that posits loose, unverified connections between Manafort, Clinton, and the Uranium One deal on the very same morning that news broke that one of Trump's foreign policy advisors plead guilty to lying the FBI about his attempts to collude with Russia is, frankly, not at all useful.

If more evidence arises that the Podesta group and Clinton campaign are as involved in this as the Trump administration clearly is, than I fully support an investigation and criminal charges if warranted.

But until then, we should focus on holding our current leadership accountable, rather than trying all we can to -- again -- make this a partisan issue.

To be very, very clear: One of Trump's foreign policy advisors knew that Russia hacked the DNC's email well before the general public knew, and attempted to arrange meetings to gather that information. He shared that information with still unnamed senior campaign staff, who replied and acknowledged that they would take said meeting but that they needed to take steps to insulate Trump from the fallout .They were aware of the legality of what they were doing.

If, in the end, Mueller ends up implicating Hilary and Podesta and whoever else, great. Whoever's guilty should pay the price. But right now there's nothing beyond speculation that that's the case, and it's the stuff of Russian State Media that Fox News is covering that angle and convincing American citizens that it's important right now.

Our President's campaign manager is going to prison for, amongst other things, secretly acting as a foreign agent to Russia. We are exactly one election cycle removed from the Republican Presidential candidate insisting that Russia was the US's single biggest geopolitical threat. We should all, as Americans, be furious about this. Instead, we're trying to find ways to implicate the other party.

Here's an actual exchange between Papadopoulos and a High-Ranking Campaign Official, whose name is still redacted.

Subject line: New message from Russia"

"The Russian ministry of foreign affairs messaged and said that if Mr. Trump is unable to make it to Russia, if a campaign rep (me or someone else) can make it for meetings? I am willing to make the trip off the record if it's in the interest of Mr. Trump and the campaign to meet specific people."

After several weeks of further communications, the head of the campaign said to Papadopolous "I would encourage you" and another foreign policy advisor to the Campaign to "make the trip, if it is feasible."

Meanwhile, Sarah Huckabee Sanders just stood up in front of the American people and said that Papadolous offered to take this meeting, and that the campaign never responded.

In other words, she lied to our faces. And it's up to Republicans and Democrats to hold them accountable.

Seriously OCF? Come on. I watched the video but I knew as soon as I saw Tucker Carlson's name that I would not be watching anything of substance. The Uranium One story is false. Made up by the Fox News crowd to distract and it has been repeatedly and thoroughly debunked.

At what point will conservatives grow some courage and speak out against the rot that has taken over American conservatism? Is winning that important to you guys that you're willing to overlook anything? When Trump said he could murder someone in cold blood in the middle of the street and not lose his supporters he was half-right. Not only would they still support him but they would scream at the top of their lungs that HILLARY DID IT!

This is a pretty good response for those inclined to "whataboutism" from the Washington Post. Note hyperlinks within the article and actual reporting of reality.

On a separate and related note, I don't know how is anyone OK with the nation's president calling the two most decorated and respected newspapers in the country "fake news." It's frankly alarming.

Meanwhile, I just heard that the FBI is ordering a special pair of tiny handcuffs for possible future arrests. Anyone else hear this?

I'm not a strong defender of this administration. I cringe at many of things that they have done. However, I believe in trying to find all the truth, and it's not as simple as some on here imply. Being a bombastic, unrefined, inconsistent, not very articulate, etc., etc, person is not an impeachable offense, as much as you might wish it was. Also, I still believe him to be better than the alternative last November, and so did a majority of voters in the previously Democratic states (in recent history) of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. I won't accuse you of being a strong supporter of Hillary, who spent much of her career defending her serial rapist and sexual abuser husband from his accusers, who now says women must always be believed when they make a charge of sexual abuse. Hmm . . . just one of the many ways in which she is a very reprehensible human being.

You're obsessing about what a man did with his penis when he hasn't held elected office in almost 17 years. Never mind that the man in the Oval Office has loudly bragged about committing a legal textbook definition of sexual assault. And somehow you manage to turn the victim of adultery into the real villain. Those are some special mental gymnastics. Never mind that your "unrefined" guy never disclosed his taxes, repeatedly goes to bat for an enemy power, now has proven ties to criminals and has been spending his term dismantling what respect this nation has left in the world among both allies and foes. Your big concern is Bill Clinton's penis and the fact that his wife stayed with him. Brilliant.

However, I believe in trying to find all the truth, and it's not as simple as some on here imply.
For somebody who believes in trying to find all the truth, you're very willing to let Fox News -- and your leaders -- lie to you over and over again. With all due respect, if you're so willing to believe the things they tell you despite the preponderance of evidence otherwise, it rings hollow when you come in here in search of the truth.

Yesterday marked yet another instance of evidence coming forward that the Trump Administration had improper contact with Russia, and arranged a meeting to obtain illegally hacked emails. They have consistently lied about this subject, and about their contact with Russia in general. That includes, at this point, Jeff Sessions, Jared Kushner, Trump's sons, Paul Manafort, and a foreign policy advisor with a hard to spell Greek name. Two of those people are now going to prison.

That your reaction to that is, essentially, "let's see how the Democrats might be involved" isn't truth seeking. It's you falling hook, line, and sinker for a distraction offered up by politicians that you elected and now refuse to hold accountable.

If Podesta's as dirty as he seems, I hope he's indicted. If Hilary had anything to do with it, I hope she's indicted, too. But right now there is rot at the highest level of our government, and examining that needs to be a higher priority than partisan point scoring.

There's a preponderance of evidence linking the Trump administration to Russia and we owe it to our republic to examine that, and right now, it's conservative voters like you who are keeping that from happening, whether you realize it or not. It's incredibly ironic that the same party that virtue signals their patriotism when NFL players kneel is willing to so blatantly look the other way when Russia illegally interferes in an election.

Party over country, indeed.

What you're calling silly, without realizing it, is representative democracy. If congressional Republicans thought, even for a moment, that you cared about any of this, they'd act. They work for your vote. But since your vote's safe, they see no need for action.

As for Trump being indicted, I said there's clear evidence linking his administration to Russia. We've seen that already. If you need to see Trump's hands dirty to think his administration should be held accountable, that's a problem.

Actually, I still have all of the same things to worry about that I addressed in my original post. Your two responses didn't address any of those concerns, nor make a salient, relevant point. So we're still at square one.

Since you're having some trouble keeping up, I'll explain what square one is, in this case. It's the fact that conservatives don't seem to care, even a little bit, about the illegal activities uncovered and have seemingly no desire to hold their elected representatives accountable. You're more evidence of that, but again, self awareness isn't your strong suit so it doesn't surprise me that you don't recognize that your responses illustrate my point perfectly.
