There is an executive dean that makes $600,000 at OU.

Albin isn't paid higher than one of the deans.

Nellis may be the highest paid geography professor in world history at 684k.

That's the medical school dean, and the dean of the engineering school is typically not far behind. So, yes, we do pay our coaches inline with a dean's salary. Someone should be very happy!

Just a warning to our sensitive readers here at Bobcatattack.com: the data presented in this report doesn't include bonus pay. You may well read about an employee of OU receiving bonus pay in the future, and when you do, it's going to be quite triggering.

Oh, not only does this not include bonus pay, but also does not include contracts that coincide with the employees job with the University.

I’ll be tickled pink if Albin earns/triggers every single one of his contract bonuses this year. I’ll also be hiding in my basement for fear of being crushed by a pig falling from the sky were i to go outside

Well, the medical dean is often a member of the practice plan and receives additional compensation not in his or her base salary from that source. So, even with bonuses our coaches may still be earning what a dean does. That should dampen the triggering from certain quarters.

The outrage about bonuses wasn't related to coach pay.

Sorry, there are so many outrages it's hard to keep track of them all! ;-)

The few at the top don't reflect the average dean salary, which seems to be around mid 300. The dean of the college of business makes 318k. I hardly think a coach should make much more than that, given that athletics lose money. I can take the laughter and snide remarks. I guess many were napping in accounting class the day they were reviewing profit and loss after a late night at Swanky's.

I guess you are right, and all the professionals in the industry of college sports is wrong.

When I would tell my parents that "all my friends are doing it", they would tell me "if all your friends jumped off the Terminal Tower, would you"?

Where to start with this statement. "Industry of College Sports". Are you serious?
Ask yourself why college athletes are in school. Is it not to get an academic degree? How, I repeat HOW, does a coach help in that regard? Help me please and don't give me crap about study tables, etc. As a former athlete at Ohio my coach had virtually no impact on my academic success. My academic advisors did guide me in pursuit of a degree since I knew very, very few D1 athletes go to the next level. Thus, your supposed "professionals in college sports are irrelevant. Did you play D1 sports? Yes or No?

Some of you still desire college sports to be what it was in the 1960's and 70's. You don't have to like it, and you don't have to agree with it. But yes, College sports is an industry now, an industry all of itself. They have college majors now designed to become AD's, runs departments, etc.,. The money paid is 7 and 8 figures to coaches. Multi-Million dollar budgets, assistant coaches making $500K. Dislike it all you want, but at least be honest, that is where we are at.

It is a "big business" for some, but not us. I paid enough attention in my business classes to learn that part of business is "profit".

It's a subsidized business (all over the country), which does not have to worry about making a profit like a private business.

If you do not know who subsidized our athletic department, and many around the country, then we really cannot have a conversation. What are we getting for the money, well for one, you got a degree off the backs of OHIO University students who paid for your scholarship. ;-)

That’s a cheap shot, but I’ll overlook it. Athletics are valuable to the university experience, but there is a limit to what you can spend. As you’ve indicated, our hoops budget is already the tops in the MAC. Yet you and some others want to spend more. Why? I can only speculate as to your reasons. Our market is small and our league doesn’t lend to making the big jump you think we can make if only we spend more money. The cost/benefit is not there. If the money is coming from some big donors, then I’m cool with it. But to add to the budget or take from the endowment makes no sense.

Actually, I want to spend more money on support staff and resources that support the athletes, the programs and the things that make us better.
