Its now down to only the Marshall and Louisville provosts for the presidential spot.

This feels like a quick/early withdrawal. It ain't easy convincing someone to lead this campus and community, eh?

Often withdrawals at this stage are a face-saving device when the candidate is told that they aren't the one, and they are given the option of withdrawing, which looks better on the resume than "not chosen." As I understand it, that's what happened with the withdrawal of the president of NDSU when Nellis was chosen. What a bad decision that was on the Board of Trustees part!

Dr. Lori Gonzalez was a faculty member in the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the U. of Kentucky when I served as the site visitor accreditation chair for the Council on Academic Accreditation for the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. So I must have met her but it was over 20 years ago and unfortunately I can't recall any interactions I had with her. Our association did re-accredit their program, giving it positive reviews.
p.s. I did briefly review the qualifications of our two presidential candidates, and believe the Marshal provost to be a better fit for Ohio University.

#299 out of 443 Schools academically.

From now on, I'm going full on George Santos and lying about (everything) where I went to school.

I'm not being associated with Marshall's hell-hole of an institution. This is hot garbage embarassing that we would stoop this low, but nothing surprises me after the Nellis search.

DO BETTER.

College fundraising is an interesting beast because many time huge sums of money come in from one source that no one knew about or no one was cultivating. We've seen that at OU on several occasions. That said, an marked increase in the number of donors is another matter. What do your sources tell you - did a few big gifts come in during his fundraising activity period or did the number of people giving significantly increase?

He didn't raise enough to salvage the men's track team, did he? A great fundraiser would have been able to do that. He wasn't a great fundraiser in my book.

I still can't believe we are trying to pull someone from Marshall to be our President. One of the worst academic institutions in the history of higher education in the United States of America.

I'm sad and disgusted.

Also, Alden was the best President the university has ever had. I would say McDavis was 2nd. Beyond that, it's not even close. The ones crapping on Alden's reputation probably thought Ping and Glidden were the top of the heap.

Marshall. Man. Unreal. So sad.
I guess it is all relative when judging academic institutions? I thought you might be interested to see what a former Ohio U student and basketball player, Sean Jackson thoughts were about attending Ohio U for one year. I believe Jackson was a graduate of Huntington Vinson High in Wayne County portion of Huntington. I guess it is easy to look down on any college? An Ivy League school wouldn't accept any credits from Ohio U, I find that interesting.

After your freshman year at Ohio University, how did you end up transferring to Princeton?

My thought process during my freshman year at Ohio U. was not so much "Man, I got to get out of here" as much as it was "I wonder what it would be like to be involved in a setting that prioritized academics." Coming out high school, my only thought process was to go to a school that paid for college. I applied for transfer to Princeton shortly after the season ended and found out I was accepted in August - one month before classes started. I entered Princeton as a freshman because the school didn't accept any OU credits. Princeton was the only school I inquired about.https://www.princetonbasketball.com/?p=119

FWIW: The MU School of Business received a $35 Million gift for the Lewis College Of Busines while Dr Mukheriee was the Dean from Brad Smith an MU grad. Brad Smith is now the President Of Marshall University. Mukheriee also raised more money for MU, he is sharp and Ohio U could do worse for a president.

I don't share BL's apoplectic view about the pedigree required of the next Ohio president, but if a 35-year-old article that (shocker!!) compares a state university unfavorably to an Ivy League school is the best evidence you have, it's not very compelling. A lot has changed since the late 1980s, including considerable academic upgrades in Athens, but I will go out on a limb and guess that Princeton is still just a hair more academically rigorous.

I will further add that I don't believe that no credits from Ohio transferred to Princeton, unless he was taking underwater basketweaving, or some real mickey classes. I know many people who have had credits from our dear alma mater transfer to Ivy League schools, including way back in the 1960s to Harvard. Somehow this whole story doesn't exactly pass the smell test.

He did not want to salvage the men's track team, just like no one wanted to bring it back. My point is/was your point just ain't valid. Being a fundraiser is totally different and irrelevant, if the funds raised go to things "you" do not want.

By no means am I commenting on Mr. Jackson's academic performance at OU but slide 10 of this report is very interesting. In 2020, almost one in four incoming freshmen in Ohio's public colleges and universities needed remediation in either reading or math. I have no idea what OU's numbers were, but obviously remedial classes probably aren't going to transfer anywhere.

For a doofus, he's done quite well. I was president of the Green and White Club when Kirby was here and found him to be communicative and above board in all of our dealings. He actually called me when I was in Dallas as a courtesy to let me know about the impending program cuts before they happened.

My nephew Phil was interested in the Russ college and possibly running crosscountry. I phoned Kirby and asked if he could meet Phil, his dad and me. He did so, graciously talking about OU. Phil applied, was accepted and earned his degree from the Russ.

Kirby "Whole Cut" Hocutt, dumped a bunch of sports while he was here: I believe Men's swimming and diving, men's track and field, lacrosse, and also I think tennis. One of my lacrosse students had just finished a 10 month rehab and given clearance to play just before the season was about to begin, the same day " Whole Cut" dropped the sport. She and the team were devastated. The team could have played that season but chose not to for obvious reasons.
