If all BA posters could please keep SBH in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult times. I'm afraid this personal loss is going to hit him as much as the closing of Big Red Tomato pizza did several decades ago.

That was an institution!

I remember my aunt and uncle taking me there when I was about 5 years old (I'm 78 now).

Somewhere Jack Hartley is smiling!

(Jeff might be old enough to know what I'm talking about.)

Larry's Dawg House will likely see a bump in biz from this closing.

In the early 1970's when Rt 33 traffic went through downtown Nelsonville there were two establishments, Diary Queen and Brown's. Brown's had the most delicious custard recipe.

Our OU business professor said that if Brown's had DQ's location they would own the market. Alas, Brown's didn't and went out of business.

Or so my memory recollects.

Someone told me, or I read it somewhere, years ago that the first blizzard was made at the Athens DQ. Can anyone verify this? If true, shouldn't this DQ be saved for historic preservation purposes? Asking for a friend.

Doubt that's true, but I do know according to local legend the Diary Queen in Murray, Ky., is the "best in the world."

I didn't realize that Frank went to DQ after visiting Casa. The things you learn on BA.

Well, they were tired of running the business. Maybe they tried to sell it, but no takers. Second or third generation didn't want to run it. Lease was up and landlord demanded more than they were willing to pay.

I regret to add that if the DQ brass had been with me on my last visit to a filthy, fly-ridden, worn out restaurant, they would have shut them down on the spot. Gotta believe that “tired of running” neglect had something to do with it.
