My sources are just people I've talked to on the street, so take it FWIW... I heard it was changing hands, but I also heard Saturday was it's last day...  Maybe just under old ownership?  I also heard the new owner is keeping the name.

Second-hand news from previous owner says the owner of Courtside bought it, will shut it down to remodel it, and will eventually reopen under the same name.

I like the close/remodel/reopen as the Junction scenario. Place needs a bit of a facelift. Can't hurt.

The should just buy a case of bleach and a pressure washer.  Take two days to air it out and open back up by the weekend.

The fact it's now owned by Courtside will hurt. I think it's obvious by now that place isn't fond of safety or Ohio athletes.

Courtside isn't fond of anyone that isn't a friend of their staff.  Unless you know an employee, you go for slice night then head to another bar where they won't treat you like crap.

This is correct as far as I know.  Place is totally gutted right now so it is not going to look anything like the Junction you've known.

Is Souvlaki's gone?  I looked in the window two weeks ago and it appeared to be cleaned out.

Re:  Souvlakis:  I ate there about six weeks ago.  Don't know of anything that's happened since.

I hope Souvlakis isn't closed.  I figured they just shut down for the summer.  I'm disappointed Uptown Grill on Union might close.  It has only been around a couple years, but they have the most underrated food in Athens.

...

I also saw they are opening a new wing place on Court Street called "Wings Over Athens."  http://wingsover.com/

Don't worry, shab. The new Student Senate president wants to bring chains into Baker Center.

Baker Center, I don't care about. It's the surrounding areas that concern me. Hey, I love Chipotle, but I will always choose Big Mama's if I want a burrito in Athens, just out of principle. I can go anywhere in the country and dine at Applebee's, but no other place has Case Nueva.

Last month, I interviewed for a position at Morehead State University. It's a rural area, just like Athens, and the population densities must be similar. As far as I could tell, the only independent restaurant was some cheap Mexican place, like Casa Lopez way out on East State St. The only bar I could find was a Buffalo Wild Wings. It definitely lacked all charm.

I am a huge fan of local businesses popping up in Athens but I wonder what rent uptown is like for a small business?
The new Wings place is opening on 33 North Court which sounds so familiar. A little help please, what was there before?
