Nowitzki is a terrific player (which is not news to anyone whose been paying any attention).

GameFiveHeQuit lost again.  Good.  At this point I don't pay much attention to the guy.  But his losing does not dissappoint me.

I usually don't give a rat's rump about the NBA, but two things caught my attention this past week.  First, the video mocking Nowitzki.  How bush is that.  You could just see that the Mavs would get fired up over that.  Second, in last night's post-game news conference, LeEgo said "I won a couple more games this year than I did in '07 " or whenever it was that the Cavs went to the finals.  "I won"???  "I won"!!!!  Mr. Team Player.  Hah!

The Mavericks are a team that is easy to like.  Dirk played his entire career for them. Owner right there with the players and he even picks up a 100 grand bar tab the guys rack up celebrating.  He leaves a 20,000 tip to the bar staff. Unlike James who is legendary for not tipping at Cleveland clubs.

That's so stupid, it hurts. And you committed an apostrophe crime.

Sort of on topic to this board because it involves the MAC, I heard an interview on the Jim Rome radio show today with Buzz Bissinger, the author of "Shooting Stars" about LeBron James. He said Keith Dambrot, who coached James at St. Vincent-St. Mary his first two years of high school, is James' favorite coach ever and the best one he's ever had because he is the only who has not been afraid to challenge him and tell him he needs to do things better. I certainly can see that demeanor with Dambrot at Akron. He comes off as a jerk sometimes, but he takes charge.

The story is false. He even went back and re-tipped the waitress. It was big news in Cleveland at the time... which says a lot about Cleveland, but still.

I hope you were joking about SB 5.  Some of us state employees -- like just about all of the 50 people in my office who are about to needlessly lose their jobs because my agency's having its budget slashed, not to help the current deficit (since my agency doesn't get a penny from the general fund) but because a lobbyist friend of the current guv has a client who complained about my agency (as reported in the Dispatch two weeks ago) --  are looking forward to SB 5 being overturned in the fall.

Is this your attempt to pass yourself off as a journalist with a point of view.  Or maybe you're trying for the persona of a wizened irritant.

It doesn't work for me.   Or you.

I duly recognize that you care little about that.  On a similar matter, I wonder how you know so much about what kind of attention I pay to LeBron.  Thanks for knowingitall.

I truly don't know how you would get journalist from any of that. And I was just making a joke that you said you don't pay attention to someone you started a thread about. Relax.

Maybe, maybe not but the story of he and his mom trying to stiff the woman he hit with his car isn't fake. Nor is his refusal to shake hands after losing a playoff series. Nor is the story of he and/or his entourage pulling the video of him getting dunked on.Nor is his celebration of his shafting the City of Cleveland.  Nor is his complete lack of graciousness in defeat. Nor is his complete sense of entitlement.   I was rooting for James when he first hit the scene but he is proving to be a complete tool at every turn.  He can still salvage his legacy but his personality is going to make it tough.  He is essentially Ryan Leaf with more talent.

I started to lose my fandom for LeBron when he used to refer to his teammates as his "complementary players"

Sorry about the apostrophe crime.  I think it's only a misdemeanor though!

Yes, I'm serious about SB5.  The Ferguson Act should never have been replaced by the law that allowed public employees to do collective bargaining.  That happened in the 1960s.  I was against it then, and I continue to be against the concept.  SB5, actually, IMHO, did not go far enough.  It just trims things around the edges.  Wisconsin did a better job.  There is an inherent conflict of interest in taking public salary money (in the form of union dues) and using it to lobby for benefits for state employees and for and against specific candidates.  By contrast, I see no problem with private sector unions, as long as membership is voluntary, because the union is representing workers solely in their capacity as employees of the company, not as "citizens" of the company with the right to hire and fire the management through a voting system.  [Now, there are some rare exceptions to this with worker-owned companies, which is a concept I support, but that a whole 'nother can of worms.]

I believe I hear the Siberian Express warming up . . . and to think, Alan had nothing to do with it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, SB5 has nothing to do with the discussion of Ohio Basketball, I would love to chat about it (really I would) but move it along.

I move the previous post be sent to General Ohio University Discussion.

I still think there should be a forum called "Derailed topics" or "Political Crap" to send this too.  I don't think it is a crime to let a conversation go off topic and into sprited topics, so let's embrace it with it's own forum.

Great idea Andrew.  It could still be on Bobcatattack but a separate forum.  It's fun to discuss those things with folks you know or with whom you have a common association.  As far as OCF's comment about me starting a thread on it's way to Siberia, I think he'd be surprised to know that I believe that there are parts of SB 5 that make sense.  Common pension contributions and benefit contributions would be two of them.

I understand why they frown on it here though.  Those kinds of discussion can lead to some serious grudgeholding and turn this board into a much less fan friendly place.  Politics and religion, while fascinating, really get people's blood boiling.  So do sports but we are all on the same on that one albeit not always agreeing on the topic.

Visit the MAC board and see how vicious the political areas get there. I don't want that here.
