Borrowing from Fox News propaganda, retired Ohio University professor Richard Vedder is calling for reforms on Ohio campuses.

A guy who, in the past, has argued that public universities shouldn't exist has no credibility. And yes, he did exactly that in a blog post that said there should only be private universities and colleges and corporate run in-house training schools. Remember his first Forbes ranking where scores of completely unknown small private colleges ranked higher than Berkeley or Michigan?

"Diversity, equity and inclusion a threat to the nation." Really? "Woke supremacy"? Good, Lord, are a modern day version of the McCarthy Hearings soon to follow? Better yet, will underclassmen/women/they/them/non-species related individuals be accused of being Witches and burned at the stake? What a bunch of reactionary cavemen. If anything, the United States is more Conservative than ever. The only thing that will likely change that is to keep pushing such Witch-Hunting style madness. The real question here is how such retired professors got their Doctorate Degrees to begin with. Shameful.

Welcome to the world of Vedder! He’s done nothing in his career but bitch about the hand that has fed him. And so far that broken clock has been more correct.

He's always struck me as a guy who was incredibly ambitious but never got tapped on the shoulder to move to some big AAU type school. So that ambition turned into bitterness, and now he wants to just burn it all down.

So many people that have never met with Dr. Vedder always love to post negative comments about him on this forum. He teaches at OU because he likes what he does at OU and he likes living in Athens. One of the last meetings I had with him during my undergrad he made a comment that Harvard paid him more than Ohio University. Trust me, Vedder had plenty of opportunities to leave the University but chose to stay because he supports the vision of Ohio University.

+100. I too had 1:1 experience with him back as an undergrad. I may not agree with everything he's written but he was an awesome Econ Prof when we had an incredible Econ Dept. Unfortunate some choose to make unintelligible comments based on limited knowledge. More than 20 years he wrote "He specifically recommended as well that colleges expand distance learning, cut out non-educational programs, modify tenure, raise teaching loads, and reduce administrative staffs." This was in response to rising tuition. And where are we today?

Bingo! This is exactly why so many people oppose college debt forgiveness. Until we address administrative and program bloat as well as many current practices, the cost of college will continue to lead to massive debt for future students.
