Only a matter of time until there's also a degree in Living in Mom's Basement.

Billion dollar industry. 1 1/2 generations ago folks were questioning the value of offering sports marketing. It's just another subset.

My surprise is that this is a degree, not just a team sport. There isn't a degree in football or basketball, is there? Game design makes perfect sense as a degree.

I'd argue that "sports marketing" is what's killing the enjoyment of athletics at the professional and intercollegiate levels.

Here's Miami's description of their program. Seems like it has mostly to do with training in how to run and market tournaments. Since that school is a complete non-entity in engineering or computer science, I guess that makes sense.

An Esports Management program turns your passion for gaming into an exciting career. Miami University’s Master of Esports Management degree — available both online and hybrid — gives you a solid foundation in all esports functions, including tournament and facility management, branding/marketing, sponsorship, team management, performance psychology and coaching, recruiting, finance, business models, media rights/legal broadcasting and more. In addition to the two semesters of online coursework, our Esports Management program features a brief in-person residency where students gain hands-on experience assisting with a top-ranked tournament organization.

What's next at Miami? A bachelor's degree in preppy studies?

OK, that got a chuckle out of me. But I officially can’t be a youngs anymore.
