My father went to the University of Wisconsin and they do a brilliant program called grandparents university where alumni bring their grandchildren to campus for a 2 day event during the summer.  They stay in the dorms overnight, and see many parts of the campus including tours of the football stadium, basketball arena, and several areas.  They pick 4 majors they think they might be interested in for breakout sessions and do kid-oriented activities to show them what the vocation entails and get them excited for college and a career.  My Dad and my 7 year old are signed up to go.

I couldn't help but think how great a program like this would be for our university.  Educating children on the importance of a college education is great as is helping them start to consider what they are interested in, but getting them excited about Ohio University is awesome too.   It doesn't hurt to get alumni back on campus and feeling a little university pride either.

I'm not saying it should look exactly like this, in fact it might be cool to make it a "parents university" instead.  But doing something to give alumni a chance to introduce their children/grandchildren to the university and what it has to offer would be a program that could pay huge dividends.

Wondering if anyone remembers anything like this ever being tried or discussed?
