A legend in flight history. A solid representative for the State of Ohio.
God Bless John, his wife Annie and family.

I heard him speak about 3 years ago a the Smithsonian Air and Space museum. I couldn't believe how good he was for someone who was 92.

Had the pleasure of spending a few hours with him back in the mid 70's when I was a student at Muskingum. Fascinating man. Not sure if I've told this story before but here goes - he was scheduled to be on the college radio station that morning as part of his visit to campus to kick off Ohio's year long celebration of the bicentennial and in walking across the quad to Cambridge Hall, we were steering him to the back of the building where you come in on ground floor and could walk right into the studio. His comment was "aren't we going down there" as he pointed toward the window of the studio? Of course the answer was yes so he walked over and tapped on the window. The radio staff opened it for him and he just stepped down into the studio as if he were climbing into Friendship 7. We were all of 20 at the time and he was 54 (an old man for us). The whole day went that way - Senator Glenn one step ahead of all us.
Watching his memorial service on TV today was quite remarkable.

This is a bit OT.
At Mr.Glen's Memorial Service one of the speakers talked about his relationship with the "computers" (Many of them black women) who, during the pre IBM days, did all the calculations at NASA.
That was still in the segregation days, but it didn't matter,if they could do the job.
Glen trusted one black woman so much that he wouldn't go into space until she checked the numbers the IBM computer spit out.
Now for the O.T. part.
There's a movie coming out in January about these ladies.
"Hidden Figures".
Saw a show on the making of it.
It looks pretty good.

Can't wait to see. Trying to figure out if it's too old for my seven year old granddaughter.

That movie does sound interesting. I'm not a big movie goer, but that one may be worth a trip to the theater. Alan, sometime I'll tell you about my personal experience with John Glenn; this tribute thread is not the place for it. I do admire Glenn for all that he accomplished in the many splendid facets of his life. May he RIP!

To quote a famous person in these parts, "WRONG!"
