+1. This would be very disheartening. I guess fundraising is the main job of a president these days, but even if he landed a bunch of big donations I'd have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to get remotely behind that move.

What's the source of this supposed rumor?

It's a person who has some ties to the upper administration. Given his or her past track record, I would classify the source as "semi reliable." Sort of like what you find in the average entry on Wikipedia. I just put it out here to see what the reaction would be, just in case. So far, it's kind of what I expected.

Coming from same former professor who was mad he didn't get a shuttle from his hotel to the game. Anyone who is that connected has to have Presidential scoop, especially when local media is being locked out of public records by a "private" search firm.

Think this would be good for athletics. Probably bad for the university as a whole.

Almost hope it happens just to see the reaction of Faculty Senate and others. Hah!

Anyone know what he's done at YSU?

Is their fundraising up? How are their relations with the legislature? It's open admission, so I wouldn't expect huge jumps in averages, but are they attracting some better students at the top of the class? Any jumps in research funding? Athletic budget requiring more or less subsidies?

I would hope that all of these questions would be answered before the search committee gave him any thought.

I'd be very curious to see what impact he has had (if any) on both enrollment and fundraising at YSU.

While "former-OSU football coach" is one of the last titles I'd want on the resume of
OUr president, if his name recognition could significantly increased donor interest or interest from prospective students, I'm on-board.

As for faculty senate, let me just say that their endorsement is rather low on the list of things that matter to me when looking for a president of this University. Similar to the student senate, the faculty senate isn't representative of the opinions of the greater faculty (many of whom have opinions I do respect)

Athens News listed the "applicants". But this isn't the real list right? These are just people that applied (online I guess)? The real list I assume is being kept by the Seacrh Firm.

Applications for Ohio University’s next president revealed

Interesting considering the media has field FOI's for applicants from the search firm and that battle is interesting. But yes, this list of "candidates" has to be a cruel joke.

Those people might be fine and capable individuals, but I would hope you need vastly more impressive credentials to be considered for the job. They make Tressel look fully qualified.

For what it's worth, YSU signed him to a one year extension through 2018 on Thursday.

It would almost be worth it just to see Richard Veddar spontaneously combust.

Damn, I was just getting ready to invest in a new tattoo parlor in Athens. Oh well, on to the next venture.
