'COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — U.S. defense contractor Anduril Industries is preparing to build a massive advanced manufacturing facility in central Ohio, adding a planned 4,000 jobs to the area's burgeoning high-tech sector, state officials announced Thursday.

The Cosa Mesa, California-based defense technology company plans to begin construction of what it's calling “Arsenal 1” as soon as state and local approvals are secured. The 5 million-square-foot (464,515-square-meter) facility will be located on a 500-acre (202-hectare) site near Rickenbacker International Airport in rural Pickaway County, about 16 miles (26 kilometers) southeast of Columbus.

Last time I checked a map, Rickenbacker International Airport is NOT SEO. But yes, good thing for the State.

Pickaway county is a stretch to call SEO. But its on the southern side of Columbus instead of the northern side like Intel. 4,000 highly paid workers that with families equal 15,000 more to day trip down to the Hocking Hills. Tourism in SEO no doubt will benefit.

I have had a couple of conversations with folks at Anduril and knew vaguely that they were working on this. They're a very, very good company and growing extremely fast. Think there's a high probability that 4k becomes much more over time.

The title says “to SEO”, just pointing out, south side of Columbus is not SEO, not in any form.

Unfortunately, and I'm not sure why, Athens has not been able to attach itself to the Hocking Hills. At best, Nelsonville seems to be the southern boundary.

Has Athens tried? I see places in Vinton and Jackson that promote their position as close to or part of Hocking Hills

The county visitor's bureau has. I can see why Vinton County would because Lake Hope, which most would consider part of the Hocking Hills, is actually in the county.

Go to this site and click on parks, and nothing in Athens County is listed although under lodging, the Holiday Inn on East State Street is listed.

That has been a complaint of mine for a long time. I do see more Athens regional stuff than what I did before though.

Ridges & Dairy Barn but no SEO History Museum.

Little Fish Brewery & Shade Winery but no Jackie O's.

No mention of Arts West or Eclipse Company Store. Fur Peace Ranch. Templeton Blackburn Auditorium. Strouds Run.

There are places of note in Athens county on the level of Hocking Hills attractions. You can't from my knowledge take a tour bus out of Athens into the Hocking Hills or outer locations in Athens County. The university offers a mountain bike rental for a fee of $26 a day.

To be listed on those sites you quote, you have to pay to play. That's puts it on the business to choose to pay or not.

Fur Peace had their last concert in November - Wishbone Ash. It was a great show but a kind of melancholy evening. We first went there in 2008 and saw Roger (Jim) McGuinn and were season ticket holders till it closed.

Because it’s worked for them, and it’s guaranteed business model. Why would those folks divest? And there are several really shrewed folks, maybe look up Brent Hayes and check his cabooses out or his old NYT article now on small town millionaires. He’s not made his money by accident of thinking inside the box.

The wineries and breweries of Athens County are serving a more regional market than uptown Court St and that is where some cross marketing with the Hocking Hills is going on. It could be that Jackie O's is focused on marketing through having its product in the stores.

I get that, our topic was in Athens proper.

Anybody know if 50% cuts to defense spending would have an impact here?

Good for him. Never hear anything negative about him. Most of the folks focusing on students are very nice people.

That said, I think Athens is stagnant due to hyper focus on making money off OU.
